But maybe less fun to ride in.

Clearly you do not live in California Steve.
When you think of sunny southern california, which of the 2 pictures do you associate with?
A hint, the one without the car is in Fontana.
Not anymore, TG, but I did live in San Diego, and La Mesa for a total of sixteen years. I’m quite familiar with the area. It takes more than your beach house to make SOCAL.
To set the record straight, this is Fontana. Your photo looks more like Victorville.
Right on Steve, keep preachin it. I lived in So Cal all my life, lived and worked in Orange County, lived in Riverside County, and worked in San Berdo. The best day of my life was when I moved to beautiful Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho 23 years ago. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. LOL
BTW it’s a lot cooler here too.
Old Pics.
This is what Fontana looks like now, or at least what matters.

The first picture is indeed of Fontana, a open lot for sale.
I like it better than the other flat spaces covered with industrial buildings.
The second picture is from mission bay area in san diego.
I’m sticking with the car, the beach and the bikini.

That photo is Fontana but way way north. 99% of Fontana doesn’t look like that.
Friday looks to be a nice day here. Got the K-36 & Goose 7 all charged up and ready to go.

Haha that’s Fontana alright. I have family that lives there. That pics right up near the mountains. And yes it can and does look that parched
I finally used the drip irrigation yesterday in the front yard, almost July without watering, not bad. We switched to a xeriscape planting years before it became fashionable.
Greg
Does your HOA allow xeriscape yard planting in lieu of turf? Some HOAs are changing their bylaws to allow desert landscapes and xeriscape planting, makes sense in this drought happy land.
BTW gonna be HOT this weekend… over 100 and humid with T-storms likely. Joy
Vic:
Yes they do allow xeriscape, but it has to look very fancy, and most of the neighbors do not like it at all. My neighbor has it and many people are up in arms.
His yard is like an exotic desert, beautiful specimens and the decomposed gravel is raked to a point that the owner of a zen garden would be proud.
All of the other guys:
I have to apologize, I was just pulling your leg because I am embarassed about where I live. It’s really hot, dusty, there really is no ocean, beaches, beautiful girls walking the streets in bikinis.
It’s an awful place to live and please be forewarned in case you even think of moving here, I would not want you to be disappointed!
Please ignore all my comments about mild temperatures, beautiful sunsets, cooling breezes, etc. It’s just awful here, and exactly the same climate as 50 miles inland, really no difference from the desert itself. There’s absolutely no cooling influence from the Pacific Ocean, no breeze, and it really does not look like the pictures you have seen, they are all fake.
Greg
Don’t worry, Gregg, I won’t move back. Just the thought of taking 45 minutes to traverse the mile and a half of I 805 is enough to make me shudder.
113 degrees forecast for today, 90 degrees at 530 am, hasn’t rained in so long I’ve forgotten what it looks like. I work on my backyard in 15 minute increments to keep from getting heat stroke. Las Vegas is the place to be…30 plus years and counting. Bill
Steve, I have been in the Seattle area quite a few times. There is horrible traffic there, highway 5 is a parking lot, and I don’t think there is any possibility of any relief, no areas to expand the freeways. Are you saying the Spokane area is way different?
Don’t know how long it’s been for you in San Diego, but they are still improving… adding lanes, more freeways, but… don’t listen to me, clearly everything is better everywhere else, don’t move here! Like I said, it’s just plain awful, miserable. I’m going to walk to the beach just to punish myself. I force myself to sit outside in the evenings just for the pain.
What prompted this in my mind is that I look forwards to summer because of the long daylight hours and the nice temperature, and I did not realize that for many people summer is too hot. Born in San Diego, I did not really realize this until I traveled elsewhere in summer.
Greg
I had to be out in the heat (~83F) putting in a new heater for the pool yesterday. The pool water is only 82F in the summer without heating because the back yard is in the shade most of the day. We like the pool ~88F, if and when we use it. I work for ~15 minutes in the sun, then take a break.
Ain’t life a biach when you don’t live at right at the beach? (Of course I don’t have to deal with rust issues or salt corrosion or frizzy hair or summer beach traffic.)

Yes, today is looking much better. Trains on stand-by. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Bob,
I prepared both the Air Quality and Noise analyses for the City of Fontana General Plan. You can even find my name and fax number on the model results in Appendicies G and H.
I remember standing out in what was the desert, and is now residential development, taking noise measurements throughout the City back in 2003.
Greg, Seattle is crazy, no doubt. Spokane is much better. I live in Deer Park, where a traffic jam is three cars at a four way stop.
The last time I was in San Diego was January, 2015. There was still not much to recommend it, except for my friends there. I even made a pilgrimage to Reeds Hobby Shop in LA Mesa. Even that had changed dramatically, and not for the better. I have fond memories of my time in Sandy Eggo, but don’t want to live there again. Come up to God’s Country. I think you’ll like it here.
Steve I lived in Spanaway for a while. There was a lot of farmland out there back then. Beautiful country in the Pacific Northwest. But when I lived there, we did have that thing with the area being covered in a layer of volcanic ash.
Well I did it (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)I was able to sit out back for a while till the sun set and just relax with the trains. Just a short train, K-36, Reefer, Combine & Caboose and enjoyed every min.
Nice!
Actually very cool, overcast, and right now…, raining here. You’ll probably get the rain in a bit. Look’s to be coming from the southeast monsoons.
When it’s done raining there could you send it our way. It’s 101 here today and it will be 104 here tomorrow. Our normal temp at this time of the year is 77 degrees. We haven’t had any measurable rain for over 2 months. Really dry and hot right now with the possibility of forest fires really high.
