Bachmann K27 update

Mine has the older Airwire in it and it isn’t PNP, as far as I could tell.
I gutted all the Bmann electronics. With the Phoenix, Batts, AW and a big speaker, there isn’t room to keep the Bmann stuff.

John,

When I was talking to Robbie about the Phoenix install, we also discussed R/C at the same time. He mentioned one of the systems that was supposed to plug directly into the ‘super socket’ with out any modifications, but I am not sure any more which one it is.

My budget currently will not support that expenditure right now, I am collecting track for the home layout and that is my focus. When completed (phase 4 of dreams and visions on a shoestring) it will be about 650 feet single track mainline, all 20 foot curves and either No 6 or hand laid 8’s (to be determined). I will be starting construction this summer on the base 250 foot loop. When construction starts I will be sure to post pics, I know everybody LOVES pics.

To the best of my knowledge, Airwire doesn’t have a plug-and-play socket compatible board as yet. The closest they have are boards designed to be plugged into the various plug-in wires in the USA Trains diesels. The G-2 is their latest regular board, and is around 4" long by 1.5" tall.

K

If you want easey peasey plug n play get the QSI/G-wire, its cost effective, easy to install and works on track power, and battery R/C. RC on both with the Airwire T-9000 throttle or the newer less expensive throttle which I recommend is the NCE gardenwire pro cab throttle. Make sure its the gardenwire one. Take a look at my videos all are QSI/G-wire can do in each engine, and or a battery full blown QSI/G-wire batteries charging jack install, and you can also mu any USA engine and do a down and dirty easy install, which uses mu plugs. If you want or would like my help, let me know I will try to explain or help or get you to someone who can!! Regal

Check out my videos the pa passenger set is the usa setup, also have a heritage u.p. and all the rest are QSI/G-wire pnp, and the k-27 is with the adapter board and wired then the QSI/G-wire pnp. Take a look and listen.

Hi Barry:

Are you able to sell replacement gears for the K-27 to correct the gear ratio problem? Maybe you could mill larger diameter gear holes in the Bachmann motor block and simply swap out the gears as required rather than selling a whole new motor block system. Does this make any sense?

Norman

Norman,

Your suggestion, was my first approach. I figured out what I wanted to do and bought the gear, bearings and shafting. Put it together and I had a shaft anchored on one end only, that will not last.

Back to the drawing board. About that time the Connie gear box was on the market and was doing very well, strong, powerful with the 8000 series Pittmann motor and it appeared that durability would not be a problem, plus the K-27’s 9000 series Pittman is even more powerful (its a Torque Monster), plus it bolts up to the same bolt pattern as the 8000 series Pittman.

Answered?
