Anybody up for a little excitement?

David, I do enjoy a lively discussion with you. I am reminded of mafia mobsters who regularly attended their local Catholic church for Sunday service, to show how religous they were. I wonder if they absented from killing on Sundays in deference to their religion.
I am not supressing any viewpoint. I do not hold a gun to your head to make you change your point of view. I encourage you to state your case. In stating your case, then your 'evidence' is open to public scrutiny. There is no anger or attempt to control. There is no gun to the head. You speak your mind and I do likewise. At the end of the day, we both put forward our cause and leave it to society to judge who is right or wrong. I cannot see how fascism comes into the discussion. You believe what you believe and I likewise have my beliefs. I point out inconsistencies in your beliefs, as by making them public, you open yourself to debate. Surely this is how a democratic sytem works. There are no guns or manipulation. It is up to you to prove your beliefs. It is not my responsibility to disprove your beliefs. I simply point out the inconsistencies in logic thought and allow you the same privilege with mine. This is what freedom means.</blockquote>

Maybe you could control your ad hominem attacks and I will do the same, it detracts form your side of the discussion.

You made your case, mike. I fully understand the “splitting hairs” argument and I’d have to agree with your point.

Are you a history teacher?

Yes I am

Sorry that I didn’t have time to participate in this excercise, yesterday. I was busy buying a birthday present with and for the bride. However, I thought that I could help you guys stay occupied and happy. I do hope you had a chance to do, at least, some train stuff.

Bob appreciates the activity on the list.

I managed to fix and aristocraft #6 switch so it actually worked. I’m making a new roadbed under the switch that incorporates a signal. I managed to fabricate a laughably crude pair of signals out of some brass and solder. But we’ve got rain mixed with sleet going on, supposed to last all day.

I bought some x-acto blades, paint colors and rust and metallic applications at the art supply store yesterday. Does that count?

What grade level History do you teach? American History?

I just finished reading The Politically Incorrect Guide Of American History, 1776 by McCollugh (sp?), Stealing The General, now digging into Notes Of The Debates In The Federal Convention, The Anti-Federalist Papers, , Northern Railroads of The Civil War The Final Days (of R M Nixon),…

We also homeschooled our four children and I chipped in with the history and math lessons where I could. I’m fascinated by the dedication and insight of some of our “movers and shakers” of the past.

The snow finally melted enough for me to find the elevated portion of my layout, at least. It has survived the winter, intact, so there is hope for the rest. It is raining now, with temps above 40F, so there is hope that the remaining foot or so of snow will be gone soon, and I can return to gandy dancing.

I’ve been building some log bunks, of the type described in GR a few months ago. This is my first go at scratch building. So far, so good.

I’m not white, I’m IRISH, pink-skinned and proud of it, you WHITE people are completely CRAZY!!!

Vic,
with a high percentage of early migration being of good Irish stock, then banning them would be detrimental to business. We know how our ancestors liked to party and rearrange things, so maye the early ban on the Irish was not a racial issue, or was it based on a carryover of the English culture inherited by the colonialist revolutionary government. We know that the English were not keen to have Irish neighbours (too hard to domesticate).

Tim I beleive it had more to do with England age old fear of the Emerald Isle, but I also beleive the predisposition to 'party"could be easily explained by the the old saying: Why did God invent alcohol? So the Irish wouldn’t conquer the world.
