I followed up with the guy and got back a somewhat snotty response that didn’t include any new or expanded information. Looks like he’s just another arrogant guy overvaluing his stuff. Boo hiss.
I don’t understand that stuff. If I had someone interested in what I was selling, if I was selling something, I wouldn’t want to chase him away be being an anus.
It’s something only another Collector would understand. That’s the fool whose money he hopes to pry loose. We don’t exist in his eyes, after all we Play with ours! Sacrilege!
I think the seller might get even more money for everything if he went through a decent auction house, even after the commission. For example, Ambrose-Bauer photographs each item numerous times, and has good online attendance.
If I didn’t have the time or interest for properly cataloging and photographing everything, that’s what I’d do. And a 30% commission is fair, because they’re taking care of all that, plus shipping, billing, collection, email hassles, etc.
I was surprised that the seller didn’t respond to Joe’s interest in the locos.

Could be the one guy I found listing USATrains and Aristo at 4-5 times Retail value. A USA trains Soo Line steel caboose for $400 with $15 shipping from Japan. I wanted to make an offer with a couple fewer zeroes.
