local Lowes has a nice selection of those plus some others I’ve never seen…now to get the dirt moved!
All dwarf alberta spruces can be traced back to the same branch cutting originally found out in the wild, basically 1 branch of the spruce had the deformed growth on it, it was taken to a nursery propagated heavily to be one of the most common varieties mass produced.

very easy to take cuttings , dip in rutone or similar root growth hormone and make a new tree

The Japanese Bonsai trees are quite often produced from cuttings . Though as a principle
it is supposed to be a long labour of love , they weren’t averse to gaining a few years’ start by
clipping interesting shaped twigs from mature trees .
My Old Dad , bless him , did some superb ones , showed me how to do them too . My eldest brother still cares for Dad’s ones 20 years after Dad’s death . The oldest tree is 30" tall , and a perfect miniature .
The main thing to remember in keeping trees small is to prune the roots as well as the branches .
