Adhesive removal

I use hot glue a lot, and it a PITB to remove. Love that rubbing alcohol trick.

I am going to try that after logging off, just so my graying brain remembers it.

Paul, report back if your would please…I don’t believe this. It looks like one of those youtube hoaxes, way too easy.

John, I removed several year old hot glue from a wooden decoration my mom has. It took a little bit more picking around the edges then the video showed, but it actually worked quite well.

I tried the rubbing alcohol trick on some unwanted hot glue on a USA Trains F3-A frame. As a lot of paints today are alcohol based, I was concerned about marring the frame paint. But the glue came off with a bit of picking, and the paint was not marred.

I don’t know the science behind this, but it works well! Thanks for the tip!

I bought a vintage Pacific a couple of months back. In the tender was a 3 inch speaker surrounded by a half inch of hot glue. I poked at the glue with an X-Acto knife and could not dent it. Then I remembered this rubbing alcohol trick.

Using two Q-Tips I slathered the glue with the alcohol. After letting it sit for a few minutes, I pried up the corner of a blob with a popsicle stick. After a bit more prying I got a fingernail under it and lifted it more. Once I got the tip of my finger under it, I was able to start peeling it off. Took a bit of time and strength, but it all came off clean in one piece. The black wire is just some redundant track power wire from the front truck.

Hot Glued Speaker

Now I can start restoring the tender so I can add a battery and receiver.
