A new Ozaukee Tower - Mik's Challenge 2014

Alan pics did not show up;)

Trouble with pics again. I got it right last time. aaargh!!

I have painted and added more today. Roof tomorrow hopefully, then deal with base to represent tarmac or cement.

Sucess with every packet… maybe. lol

To anyone wondering about the choice of colours used I have to say that the reddish colour is that I used on my grain elevator and barn. The brown is similar to the covered bridge. I guess the red could be called the house colours.

A pleasant warmish day (48F) with just one rain shower. More rain coming however.

I pollarded two sycamore trees today, something I do annually but usually in early January.

After this was finished I decided to get on and make the tower roof. The apex pieces and real slate pieces were cut to size and fixed.

I have the apex pieces to paint this evening and tomorrow I need to hunt for something in my garage that could resemble a smoke stack. I found some grey paint which has been used on the base/plinth which could benefit from a little weathering.

The coal facility, for the gatemans stove has yet to be done but actually is not part of the original plan, so it may not get made.

So, I have to confirm that no cost has been incurred on this project as all items were already in my possession.

Time is rolling on and maybe the coal bunker had thought of including will not be part of the project. I just have the chimney to make to complete the project as planned.

Yesterday I worked on the Parish accounts and today has been quite busy: a funeral this morning followed by urgent repairs on my main ham radio antenna. The three pulleys cords, which are affixed to masts, which hoist the heavy wires in to the air all broke. This was due to 98 mph (*officially recorded in Dartmouth) winds we had later this morning. I was lucky to get it done in a couple of hours after the torrential rain abated. Luckily I am not in one of the many areas in England and Wales that are under water. Scotland has snow and so does, I believe, Northern Ireland.

Retired? you must be joking. :+).

Tomorrow I have been advised is the victuals are needed: superstores here we come. aaargh! Friday, another funeral. But hopefully tomorrow or Friday afternoon will give me an opportunity to complete the project.

Update: I decided to get out into the garage, make the chimney. glue it in place and make th bunker and glue it. Once the adhesive is set tomorrow I will paint these items. That, hopefully, should be completion of it all…

After the victualing trip I set about completing the project. The roof has had two coats of paint - a black gloss and a further flat graphite coloured paint. This has given a slightly weathered look which pleased me. The tower name has been hand done so the project, as far as I am concerned, is now completed. As to the cost, other than my time, no money was spent as the Gorilla Glue, purchased initially, was not used as I felt it not a suitable product for what I was trying to acheive.

As the project is now finished I see no reason to make further comments about its build.

However, I would like to thank John LeF, Terry Burr, Boomer K, Dave ‘H’ Marconi and Ron Tremblay for their support recorded in this thread.

Most of you have joined in the fun and comradeship of the Challenge and I wish you all success.
