A New Engine House for the W&Q

Wow! Beautiful work!

Thanks guys!!! It will never be up to Ray s standards but I am having good fun with it.

I did a bit more in the last couple of days. I finished the board and battens all around.

I also added roofing. I used “weather guard with sand”…a self adhesive rubber membrane type roofing underlayment product with sand. this stuff is intended to go in those tough places on a roof that need extra waterproofing where it is steep and workers need traction when installing a roof. It is not cheap but my old engine house has it and it lasted perfectly over the 10+ years it has been outside. there is no sign of age other than some quite nice green moss starting. The new stuff isnt exactly what I had but seems similar, I hope it lasts as well! beyond that it looks decent as a tar-paper rolled roof. I have thought to give it a light dusting of paint with masking tape edges to make the effect more realistic.

I also spent some time outside this evening planting the engine house. I used a line of bricks and one concrete block as a foundation. the block is in the back where there can be some workbenches and tools so a floor might be nice! the rest will have a dirt floor unless i choose to pave it with concrete. the bricks are old and have some moss on them so the building looks like it has been there a while!

nice

This looks Great!

Wow, Absolutely have to agree with Sean, That is one cool shot. Really turned out nice, and fits it’s new home very well. I like the extended posts down the shop center too. Were they structurally necessary? I’m guessing some paint is next? Already looks like a junk pile is starting out front too, with that frog sitting there. Good job.

Very impressive Eric. As a retired carpenter I could not have done any better. My hats off to you sir.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Fantastic work, Eric!

Looks great Eric!! I agree that it will last a long time outside with paint. It has the proper roof overhang and most of all it’s sitting up off the ground on a solid foundation. Really like the foundation stones on the inside posts. As always nice work!

That looks great Eric. I have to agree the foundation looks great.

Great job on the engine house. I am building a small station (Boron CA) using all plastic in 1:32 scale. Still working out some of the detail parts, but I’ve prefabbed the windows with 3D printed ones. The siding is board and batten, printed on the 3D printer as well. With a coat of paint, the plastic should last for a long long time – longer than me for sure!

Looks great, Eric. Old school. Very realistic. I totally approve.

Great job Eric!

The battens will be the first to go, no matter what you do, but that would be true of a 1:1 building as well. I love the little Busybody watching all the work!
