Good. Because I coated my oil well Derrick with used motor oil.
I use used diesel oil, sprayed with an air-less sprayer, on my bridges. It works as a preservative and stain as well. After a couple years the color has lightened up but I see no signs of decay. I’ve used treated lumber, white oak, and redwood.

I just saw some used motor oil that I can soak my ties in.
I have to cut some redwood rafters this week and will cut ties at the same time.
I will also use some kerosene to help the ties soak up the oil.
I was going to pre drill the nails but if the ties soak up enough oil I doubt I will have to pre drill. I’ll just use needle nose pliers.

If your using cedar you wont need to drill. The spikes will push in.
