A Get Well Soon Card For Mike Morgan

Quote from Hans-Joerg Mueller - 'TV for the incapable , brain dead , and allied sorts.'

There ARE other forms of entertainment for the brain dead, and at the Ending Of All Things, the GFO will line up four people for eternal damnation and oblivion.

There are, in no particular order, the inventors of -

a. the banjo - an instrument, but certainly not a MUSICAL one.

b. the kazoo - see above.

c. elevator muzak.

d. the battery-driven, illuminated pepper mill - for use at candlelit dinners.

There are many others, but right now I’m watching ‘Desperate Housewives’ for the third time today, and I’m a mite busy…

TAC,

I wouldn’t want to have any misunderstandings, would I now?

BTW I used to play both a five string banjo and a kazoo. And I guess the users of same go where the inventors of those already are. :D :D :D

BTW I’m still contemplating the “allied sorts”, hmmmmmmmmm it’s a riddle!???

PS on the “DH”, third rerun today or different episodes??

TAC,

You left out the Bag Pipe.

While standing one of those interminable Dog Watches in the Pilot House of USS Vincennes, this time with WO4 Haversac, our Electronics Officer, we noticed our Captain, a dour Scot if ever there was one, marching back and forth between the CWIS mounts, playing his pipes.

WO4 Haversac leaned over to me, and in a conspiratorial voice, said, “Doc, you are a musician. How do you tell the difference between a bagpipe badly played, and one well played?”

I was at a loss for an answer, a first for me.

Mike,

Glad to see that you are vertical, sort of.

I find TV news to be an endorphin of sorts. If I listen to it for more than 15 minutes, I tend to drift off into designing my layout. I’m planning to incorporate Cheat Junction from the Western Maryland, somehow.

Steve,

Well you gotta feel for them bag pipes, if you’d be squeezed like that, you’d wail too!

Thanks , chaps .

You may wish to know what happened . Or not .

Because of my existing disability , I fell heavily . Being fat I cannot fall lightly .

Add to that , I made the same error as I did when I had the disabling accident . I did not let my head take the brunt of the fall , which would then have been more a damage limitation exercise to the concrete wot I hit .

Consequently , I landed on my right wrist and elbow , twisting my already damaged back in the process .

I said " Oh , dear , I have fallen over , tsk , tsk , what a silly old man you are . " This of course after I had finished chewing the walking sticks .

Thus I have spent a couple of weeks horizontal , designing layouts on the ceiling , biting my tear stained pillows in frustration at not being able to respond to my favourite comics’ utterances ( actually , I haven’t read them ) and generally being a nuisance to my very patient Son .

This excursion to the computer has undone about two days’ worth of Theraputicum Horizontalis Idlebuggeritis , to which I must now retreat .

You will all , naturally , come to regret this . Someone has to pay for the torture of mandatory TV for the incapable , brain dead , and allied sorts .
I leave you with this thought .

Why is the TV news called “News” ? The same “new” story is repeated about once every 15 minutes , ad nauseum . For 24 hours . Believe it ,

Mike . zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It’s good to see your typed words. This means you are no longer in the dying cockroach position.

Welcome back to the Land of the Uprights…but not quite rights.

I didn’t know this was Korea, the Land of Not Quite Right.

Just close your eyes and tap your heels together three times…

My number one son Martyn San has just craned me into my firing position . Can’t stay long , but will say that the hans oick is showing his true nature as soon as I get a reply up to the nicer people on site .
I think he is disappointed because he thought he would not be getting any more reminders about unfinished models — but that is his normal mode —and had to throw in a bit of superior bragging about a five string banjo .
Shove it big end first , hans --I didn’t realise you could count to five .
I take it you played it in Denmark like the rest of your supposed concertos?
And as for ice skating at 0230 , it must have been in your dreams , pal . In your dreams . I know you are a skate , perhaps that’s what is confusing you .

Back to bed . Chuckling madly .Having done my bit of insulting the disabled for today .

Mike .zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. (shorter than before)

You guys just live for the conflict. Whatever gets you going in the morning. Reminds me of the movies “Grumpy Old Men”. So who’s gong to throw the fish in the back seat of the others car?

Ric,

Nah, only some do. But reading MMs speculations is always entertaining.

BTW when I went busking across Northern Europe 41 years ago I had a twelvestring guitar, not a banjo. A twelvestring guitar is almost as loud but a lot more versatile. Of course I also had a kazoo and blues-harp on one of those “around the neck” harmonica stands.

Lots of fun, lots of fun. Busking and hitch-hiking was a lot more instructional than any military service I ever heard about or participated in.

Mike good to hear you on the mend.

Your circumstances remind me of an old joke I heard, might have been Benny Hill

Q:Whats wrong? Are you afraid of falling ?

A: Its not so much the falling as the sudden stopping when I hit the ground.

Hey , chaps and hans .
Today marks a good day for trying . The injury is healing slowly—not quick enough for me .The longer I rest it the worse it gets . You can’t win sometimes , but Boredom forces the pace a little .

I would like to thank all of you who sent Dad emails , they cheered him up immensely , as did the messages on this site . Much as I would like to sit with him and write all his messages for him , I get bad marks for not being exact enough in my received (perceived?) dictation .
So it’s off to see my Fiancee , my favourite American .
I expect Dad will be back here soon,
kind regards from all of us ,
Martyn

Good to know he’s getting better. I’m looking forward to seeing him back and part of the conversation.

'Smee , taking a bit of exercise .
Which introduces the nautical side of things , Smee being the first mate of one Capting 'ook .
Nauticality is introduced because Martyn went out yesterday , to do some ’ essential buying ’ as he put it , and came back with a kit of an 80ft WW2 PT Boat. In 1/35 scale , same as my model tanks , it may wean me off the railway treadmill . I don’t know if that is what he is trying to do , but this kit is a real super job .
Just think , no dirty track , no cats , and no miserable gits ganging up on site members . I have not missed that one iota whilst horizontal .
Some of you need to take a fresh look at yourselves . The same three moaning minnies taking umbrage where nobody else saw any .
Trouble on this site ?
Look for hans . Then when he can’t cope , up come the cavalry . The radio control robots .
OK , now pick on me , I’m off back to bed .

With one thought .
Any of you ever serve on PT boats ? If so , you would love this model .
Back soon , possibly .

Warren,

It seems MM is making a staged re-entry, still a bit flailing and not all that steady. Possibly the medication or the withdrawal from the medication (two sides of the same coin).

But he’ll be back to “normal” soon enough.

…winking…

Thanks to the get-well emails , I am partly recovered , but have no new model to show . So forgive me for a rerun of an oldie , which is now finished–you never saw those did you ? So here , ready for its first passenger is Ferro Carriles Rio Yanqui No 1 —

and here is Manuel , the first paying passenger ---- NO PIC SEE EDIT BELOW

and for jhis fans , an encore—NO PIC SEE EDIT BELOW

And yes , I buggered it up . It took me far too long to do , so perhaps some kind soul would like to reduce the last two . Sorry . but at least it shows the detail . Mike Edit ------I forgot --the “FCRY” can also be The Fran Cansisco Railway . See , flexibility in everything . EDIT NUMBER 2 . My kind “Editor” , John Bouck , who must have the patience of a saint , has removed the offending 1.2Meg pics for me . It took John ages to show me (my fault) how to put pictures IN to the forum , I think he is very wise not showing me how to remove–he is probably afraid of the damage I might do . Thanks , John , bless you . Mike

Dear Mr H-J - You obviously did NOT have the chance to do military service the way that Marve and I did.

I put 33 years in and had a hoot. Every day of my service time was something special.

AND I never git kilt a single oncet!

TAC,

Just the bare minimum that was required (17 weeks) and then got dispensed from further duty due to allergies. Never had a problem with that, plenty of fields to apply my talents outside any of the military institutions.

Oh, the Swiss thouroughness: Last week prior to emigrating to the “Great White North” I spent in training at the medical branch of the civil defense force. What a hoot that was!

Don’t waste your time trying to get a shanker mechanic to try and understand a grunt’s way of life.

And I was trained to be a better shot than the other side guys were, as well.
