8 axle Transformer car build

I thought about stretching it but it is already pretty long. When it was under construction I tested it on half a R1 4’ diameter circle and it didn’t look pretty but it made it through.

Thanks for the interesting links Hans. Those are some huge dump bodies.

Unobtanium… isn’t that what Wolverine is made of? Speaking of comics I could just put a hammer on the car and claim the RR is moving it for Thor. That hammer bears the weight of the cosmos. The hulk couldn’t even lift it.

Hello Todd,
That care is AWESOME. I suspect that the tanks contain the COOLING OIL that is put into that piece of equipment or it is for the hydralic operation of the car.

Thanks Ron you might be right with the oil.

You will have to see the car in person it looks even better snaking its way through a switch in the yard.

OH BOY I found a LGB transformer load for $16 delivered so I bought it and guess what IT DOESN’T FIT ON THE CENTER OF THE CAR!!! I’d say the LGB depressed center flat is longer than the USAT one.

So now it will be back to the shops for inspection where the car might be cut in half and a inch or two added to the middle. Will it be easier to cut the car or custom the transformer? The inspection will decide.

Modify the transformer i.e. remove two segments

PS For what it’s worth, this seems to be a reasonable deal.

That is an idea Hans to cut the transformer. I will look at both pieces to see what will be easier.

The $150 price tag for the LGB version on onlytrains is the going rate for them and that is why I chose to build my own. Too rich for me.

We have rain forecasted all weekend so I will see what I can do.

Of course, the other option would be to cut the depressed area in the middle, and add a section to make it longer to accept the transformer…

Hey Todd- Just build your own custom transformer load. Your car came out amazing, so will the load and it will fit perfectly.

And by the way- you can just send that old oversized LGB transformer to me!

-Kevin.

I put the LGB transformer on a regular 4-axle American flat car years ago.

Looks fine to me.

OH Dan that is the easy way. What fun is that ?? LOL

We did get some snow Todd!

We didn’t get any snow at all Sean. I bet all your pretty leaves are gone now. Did you break out the plow?

I like easy. Unfortunately easy doesn’t happen all that often.

Snow too wet/sticky, and with this wind I’ll have to re cleanup all the leaves!! :frowning:

Look what showed up in the main yard this morning…

When I found out that the LGB transformer wouldn’t fit on the USAT depressed center flat I was facing 2 options. #1 cut the transformer in half and take out a chunk to make it shorter. #2 cut the flat car in half to add an inch (easier said than done) so I chose option #3 add a piece to the bottom of the transformer to lift it up out of the well of the flat. First I tried to match the dark green LGB colour but that didn’t look so good so I painted the whole deal grey. I might put an N STAR logo (my local supplier) on the side.

The added on part looks good enough to me.

Looks good to me. Will it go through your tunnels?

Todd
looks great.
Are you going to use chain and binders as tie downs?

I was kinda hoping that it would turn into a giant robot or something. I mean, it is a Transformer and all …

Now that is a great idea. a lot less woik then option 1 or 2. I like it.
