Large Scale Central

7/8 scale commercially made locos? Rolling stock?

duh

i wunder what shipping would be on a few of those cars???

Group Buy Discount???

Thanks Wendell, see what you’ve brought us to

Merry Christmas!

There is always something fascinating about the really large equipment stuff on the very narrow track.

As I tell many people - check out a search on “Shunting”.

Shipping costs are not going to be the only problem for modellers importing low cost items into the USA.
Just this week our Australian Post Office is slapping an A$9 surcharge, mandated by the USA guvmint, onto all parcels over 1 # weight. 451 grammes.

We need a LSC DC 3…lets rally up a group buy!

Don’t go to this site if you know what’s good for you. http://www.ingr.co.uk/

Bob and all:
The 7/8 hobby is sleeping and awaiting an awakening. Bob’s caution re: www.ingr.co.uk makes the point: These prototype dimuitive locos and 2’ track-scaled rolling stock are REAL!! I will take a crack at sketching out a loco based on the photos I have seen to date using one of my extra LGB 0-4-0 motor blocks.

What is the current dollar-to-pound valuation to appraise the offer at Mike’s Models? Wonder if the Hartford four wheeler flats are anywhere close.

Many thanks to Caleb, Bob, Barry, Ric, John, Tony, and all for sparking a new interest!!! If Mike’s is a good deal, what would his U.S. price be? Tony’s shipping caution is noted. Would those cars be true 7/8 per the 2’ track?

Wendell

Hi Wendell

Use this http://www.beltrol-rc.com/pages/currency-converter to find out what it will cost you.

For stuff bought here in UK take off 17.5% VAT from the sticker price right now, and 20% come January when it goes up [again]. On smaller price items the remission of the VAT is taken up with the shipping costs.

Bob-
Thanks for the photos. Just further confirmation there is a real hobby awaiting more interest. Are the photos of the steamers, a series of 7/8ths scale locos modified from “G” parts? They appear larger than 1:24 moguls (LGB), etc.,with the frontal views also showing the track width – which I am presuming is what we currently use. In this hobby it always pays to ask. I had no idea the extent of the creativity with 7/8.
Wendell

Ric ,
'Smee again getting it all rong .
Glad you found it , they do turn out good 7/8 . Martyn and I get good fun out of making and modifying them .
Then we cover them in mud , etc., like you saw on one of my posts here way back .

Keep well , my friend ,

Mike

A great 7/8th RR was the Daisy Beach. Pete built some great rolling stock using HLW and LGB porters. Here is a link to his site. Great stuff and one of my faverite railroads. Its a shame the RR was taken down.

Daisy Beach vid…

Wendell,
A friend of mine who is into 7/8 says:
" tell them to check out www.sierravalleyenterprises.com, (orders take a bit of time to get as he is a one man operation) and also http://www.7-8railways.com. Products on both of these sites are first rate."
Bill

Bill and Cale-
Thanks! I appreciate the Sierra Valley source lead and the video from Cale.
Curiosity: Cale, would you, or other 7/8 fans take some pixs of your loco next to a easily recognizable “G” loco - say a LGB mogul or one of the Bachmann locos to illustrate the size.
Thanks,
Wendell

If I had something in 7/8 to photo for you I would. I’ve never gotten that far, it’s a pipe dream of mine…Though I’d appreciate some comparo photos as well!

ripped that from Scottys page on MLS http://gold.mylargescale.com/Scottychaos/29n2/29n2-page1.html

This 7/8n2 scale is new to me. It just occurred to me that one could possibly convert the 1/12 scale military figure kits for use as characters with this scale. We could probably use them as the size of real human beings varies considerably. Also, military uniforms can be converted to work clothes with not too much bother. I do not know if you would need the armaments, however, unless your characters are going hunting.
Another possibility would be to model the 2 foot military railroads that were so prevalent on both sides in the stalemated front lines of World War One.
