I like the look of the roof tiles personally.
At first I was going to tell you it looked like a HoJo’s on the turnpike …
but thought being helpful was better, I dunno, feels funny!
So here;
Those roofs are, what’s the word for it? I’d say hideous. But the spires and weather vanes, are really, well, truly hideous (the vanes themselves are kinda nice!):
Speaking of hideous roofs, here in Denver we used to have White Spot restaurants all over town. They’re out of business now, but no matter what business goes in, it still looks like a White Spot.
The window arrangement reminds me of Mo Tower in Cresson …or one of them PRR interlocking towers had Spanish Tiles.

John, completely off topic, but is there still a restaurant called the Denim
Broker ( which denim is totally out of place in there) still
in Denver? A boss told me to stay at a hotel and eat there, long time ago don’t remember where exactly, killed my food allowance for about 3 days there.
The foam stones, the windows and I was wondering how you were going to do that hip roof and it all looks great.
Is it too early to predict a top finisher?

Pete, unfortunately The Broker is long gone, a couple or so years ago I think. It’s a damn shame because we used to have at least three great steakhouses in Denver, now we’re down to nothing. Broadway 303 is still open but they started serving frozen beef; tastes like rubber. The Fort out by Red Rocks has okay steak and decent buffalo ribs, but we’re hurting. It’s all chain restaurants now.

Thanks Tood, but, once again having seriously underestimated the amount of time it would take for the build, and having overestimated how much time I have to work on this, it’s too early to predict a finish period. I think I’ll likely get done, but it’ll be tight.
Made some progress on the fieldstone barracks that’s next to the tower, and I worked a lot on the tower itself, but the pictures of the tower will have to wait until tonight when I get home from work. So here’s the current state of the barracks intended for use of the mining locomotive crews on their layovers. It still needs some work including finish painting and it needs windows and doors. I thank John Caughey again for the roof idea, although the hip was a challenge to say the least because I couldn’t get the roof geometry exactly right no matter what (Locktite Adhesive Caulk is a LIFESAVER!). I want to get the painting of the roof a lot closer to the picture John posted. The sticks coming out of the roof are where the pipes from the stoves that keep the place warm will go. The patches are where I drilled the holes for them in the wrong place, as you can see in the first picture! It will have a front porch too, that’s why the flagstone is in front of the main door. I glued down some groundcover, and you can see the white glue is still drying on the flagstone.

I’m afraid you missed the making of the flagstone by several hundred million years. You’ll have to ask a power much higher than yours truly, a mere humble servant.
What I did is grab one out of the back yard, split off thin slices, and then the individual pieces break to size by hand.
On another note, the signal tower is starting to look like something. The imaginative work is pretty much over, now it’s just a question of slugging it out, including cleaning up a lot of Locktite!

Real flagstone. Whodathunk? I was expecting it to be something you created out of random bits of trash you were about to recycle (a la our Hawaiian friend using foam trays). Glad to hear you don’t have the power to create flagstone from scratch. If you did, I’d be wondering what was taking you so long to do your Mik build :-).

I haven’t cut out the floor space yet to line it up with Dave’s chimney above, that’s all. Although an offset chimney might be interesting!!
