Metric is so easy,i learned it when i was still a kid,its like counting pennys,10 to a dime 10 dimes to a dollar…
i am done cutting things in inches,or fractions theroff messuring countless times ,just to find out after 3 cuts its still to short,can not happen in metric!
Kevin’s method is easy because he has done the conversion but what if you want the measurement in feet or inches instead of mm.
Its very simple whatever real world measurement you have be it in ft or in or meter or mm or whatever. Divide by 20.3. That is the same ft or in or meter or mm or whatever in 20.3 scale. You can then covert to whatever you want.
so 20 ft(real life) => 20/20.3 = 0.9852 ft (this is what is measured in real life but scales out to 20’ in 20.3 scale) ie you have a real world building with a length of 20’ will scale out to 0.9852’ on your 1:20.3 railroad.
you can then convert that number into whatever => inches 0.985 * 12 = 11.823 inches or mm => 0.985 * 304.8 = 300.29 mm
Or visa-versa: you measure a building on your 1:20.3 scale railroad and it measured 32 inches. then to convert to real measurement it would be:
32 * 20.3 = 649.6 inches or 54.133 ft.
Bob’s handy dany little calculator helps with the conversion too (something new I found out today!!).
