Large Scale Central

Need geometry trip.

Never mind answered my own question. Actually I didn’t. OK I want to make a stack for my logging loco. Part of a stack is a truncated cone. I thought I had the formula but I don’t have all the info I need. I want to make a 2D pattern. I have the small side radius and the large side radius and the height of the cone segment. Can I get a 2D pattern from that ?

Got it. There are nifty calculators on line that do the hard work for me.

I have done it manually with a compass… I would have to think about it again to do it… Got a link to one of those calculators?

Yep Truncated Cone Pattern Calc you need a compass and a protractor to draw it out but it gives you the radii you need for the two circle segments as well as the arc angle to know how much of the circle you need.

Interesting,

Just one more example of not needing to know how in order to get results(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Rick,

Not sure if that was sarcasm or not, but I agree that one probably should know how. I love learning and as a general rule I would prefer to know how to do something as opposed to just getting the answer. But honestly in this case I could care less how, I just want to make the pattern so I can get on with the making. There are times when you just want to get something done. This is one of those cases.

No Devon, not sarcasm just an observation.

Or perhaps resignation to the way things seem to be now days.

No need for us to learn or understand anything new just go on the

net and get an instant answer to anything without having to waste our

time “learning”. Thing is, I’m just as damned guilty of this as everyone

else seems to be.

Been watching your project come together, looks good

Rick

You could build it as you wish Devon however it is already available for kitbashing if needed .

there lots available foe bashing. Bachmann is actually a good source for them. I just have an idea for something a little different. I don’t care for the diamond stacks and the Radley Hunter balloon stacks I like but are to big for this loco. Bachmann has one for their shay that I like. But I have an idea for one that is a narrower version of a balloon that I think I want to try. If it doesn’t work I will find a premade one.

I understand Rick. I feel exactly the same way. But I admit to being lazy on this one.
