Log loads for log cars

Hey guys here are some log loads that i made for my log cars. I originally had real logs on my cars and they were very heavy several pounds. None such cars and foundry no longer makes any so I made some myself…

Nice !! Would you care to tell how you made them ?

Oh I forgot to say the log loads pictured are only 3 Oz per full load…

I am carving these out of the blue or pink extruded foam.

I was wanting to see how big I could go for on of my accucraft log cars and I started with a 6x6" block. This one turned oout to be 6" across and thats about 10’ in the 1:20.3 scale. This one weighed in at 6.4 ounces…

Cool, looks great… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Those are great looking logs.

Very nice!

Would make a great article for Garden Railways Magazine. May as well get paid for your efforts. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

They are available for sale, here. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Thanks Guys,
As with all the stuff I make for my personal use,I always put them on my website to support my hobby… it takes me about 1.5 -2 hours to make a set of 3 logs…

Thanks Ty

Landrel those are very interesting looking logs, thanks for sharing

Dennis

Thanks Dennis,

Well over the weekend I was able to make enough to run on 5 cars. I have a train show next weekend and have not run log trains before due to the weight of the real logs I was using. I run my locomotives for up 8 hours at a time and the less weight the better. All of the logs on this whole train weight a total of 27 ounces.

Very Very cool. I love ingenuity.

i have very much enjoyed your layout, log cars and logs. Very well done. What scale are you running?

Edited because I re read the original post and answered my question

Thanks guys… I run all/mostly all 1:20.3 scale…

How thick did you get the foam? I have use 1" Dow Chemical blue board for scenery, but I know it comes up to 4" thick. Did you glue several together or do you have access to a dealer with thicker boards?

I am using the 1" blue or pink foam that you get from lowes or home depot. I glue it together with gorilla glue. The 6" log you cant tell its glued together…

Are these safe for use outdoors in a rainstorm?

Well the R&D department has not worked on that yet but the are guaranteed to float…

I use acrylic paints. Probably hold up for a while but a clear coat of urethane may be benificial…

Ty

The floating part might be useful during the annual river drive. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

I have been using real redwood logs (Branches docked-up) for display. The idea of making them out of foam is great. You are an artist, which helps when making “ingenuity” work out like this!
