Large Scale Central

Short Boxcar

I started this project om Memorial Day weekend. It is a 24 ft Wood sided boxcar late 1800’s early 1900’s era. I am using lans from Garden Railways magazine (Ted Stinson). It has strip wood siding over a plywood side. I used TiteBond III glue and in nailer for assembly so should be pretty sturdy. The roof is painters tape glue down. I will post more photos of that later. I will be using Bachmann arch bar trucks and maybe body mount the coupler. I had to change the end beam as I glued it on wrong the first time around.

Pics to come soon when I remember how to do it (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

Next up four sides cut and some of the roof braces.

Sub frame glued and pin nailed. Ready for the siding…

Fascia boards glue along the top and roof stiffener in place…

Some siding cut and ready to install. This is made of cedar 1/4 X 1/16 glued down.

All four sides sided and roof in place. Up next the doors…

I will post more pics on Sunday. Thanks for looking… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Very nice work travis. These short box cars seem to be infectious here on LSC lately. I like it because you can see everyone’s original take on it as well as all the history that come out in the posts. I’ll be checking back.

It does seem to be box car fever doesn’t it. Very nice Travis

You know guys, this is so 1950s … we make our own…

Looks real good.

Nice work. I always prefered short box car look. I need a few to add to my line.

You better hide those pink clamps, Rooster might take them…

Well the construction part is all done. Now I need to get it lettered and couplers.

I built one of those from one of Ted s kits years ago… Nice looking car! Yours looks better.
