Getting rid of MOLES!

OK, I need to know how to get rid of moles, permanently. I’ve started building my raised outside layout for running live steam and I haven’t had a mole problem in years. I finish installing all the post footing a couple of weeks ago and within the last two weeks, myself and my neighbors on both sides of me have been invaded by the little bastards.

I know kill the grubs, but I’ve also read that they eats the worms as well, so what do I do? I’m no lawn guy, I just mow it so any help will be most welcome.

Yea, it seams they like to burrow in the raised portion of my railroad too. The soil isn’t as compacted as the rest of the yard, so the digging is easy. When I see one of their burrow opening appear, I go to AGWAY and buy one of those smoke bomb things and bomb the little suckers. After a few years of bombing them, I haven’t noticed any burrow openings this year. But I know they will be back.

Our dog, Angel (of Destruction) would not tolerate a mole in her territory. She would dig it up and kill it. I’m not sure who did more damage, the mole or the dog.

It’s the human moles that worry me .

The dog, no question! Raven had the same project on her to do list, luckily it was outside the layout area.

She also does a very fine job on the fresh hills in the Park, along with any mice who believe they can hide in the high grass in the Park. Very entertaining stuff.

My previous dog, Midget, wouldn’t harm a mole, or a mouse, or a baby raccoon. And in her later years, she wouldn’t have even noticed if a mole were around.

My present dog, Biscuit, would decimate my railroad if I let him. I am out 2 feet of ties and one windmill so far. So he is tied up far enough away so that he cannot cause any further damage. He also cannot get to where the moles congregate.

Ah , I get the idea . From this one above .

http://grandpaspestsolutions.com/ Talk them to death .

Right .

Sheesh isn’t he the one who barks too much? He needs something to do, other than barking.

I remember my Grandad having a Moleskin Coat .

The molecatchers here used to get quite well paid for them----the coat was so soft , it really was nice and it shone in different ways when the sun caught it , so making a coat out of the little nuisances did actually make sense .

I watched a molecatcher at work on the local cricket pitch , he had a special shovel about half the width of a normal one and the speed he dug at was quite amazing . I don’t know if he was mucking about , but he crawled along putting his ear to the ground every so often and then he’d stop and say “got a little bugger 'ere” , dig like stink and sure enough he’d catch one . For some odd reason , I was always scared he’d cut the mole in half with his shovel .

I tried counting the skins on Grandads coat , but either lost count or lost interest around fifty or sixty .

Hans, no Biscuit doesn’t bark much, only non stop from 7 am until we let him out of his room. But I don’t want him decimating my railroad just to kill a few pesky small furry thangs. Like I said, when I see mole activity, I go buy one of them mole and gopher killing smoke bombs and just bomb the suckers. Ag-way sells them, and I think I also saw them at Tractor Supply.

I tried two different brands of the stick in the ground mole deterrents and had no luck with either one. I one case a mole tunneled right around it. The only thing that worked for me was Grub-X. Applied two seasons ago and have not had one in the area I treated since. Still have them in other parts of the property as I can’t afford to treat all five acres but the area around the layout is clear.

Dwayne I have seen that contraption before. But I don’t want to be climbing up on a ladder to retrieve the track from my reverse loop, from the porch roof.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I tried one of those inground noise makers. The moles just tunneled up to it and dug around it. I only have a 1/3rd of an acre so I’ll try that Grub-X. When I moved into my house, my next door neighbor had one of those mole traps that are a set of knifes that trip when the mole digs under it. Thinking of trying one.

We don’t have moles but squirrels. I have battled and lost the battle with a large squirrel. But my wife won the war.
She is really a good aim with a BB rifle.
She had fun shotting him every time she saw him he got tired of being hit and he moved out the world is at peace!

Peace through firepower!

Saw a nasty looking one at the local nursery, “Garden Trug.” Shoots the mole with what looks like a 1/2 length .22 short when he noses into it. I expect it’s effective.

Ooooh, splattered mole brains.
