Moles

found this suggestion on-line…may try here in the spring?

Quote:
. . . . I have used a very effective way to eradicate moles a number of times, as follows:
  1. Locate the extremities of the mole run (i.e. mole hills furthest apart) and uncover both mole hills carefully to expose the burrows.
  2. Make two buckets of moist “almost mud” soil to use as caps, place one bucket at each hole.
  3. Reverse your vehicle to one of the holes and run a hosepipe from your exhaust into the first hole, cap the pipe and hole with some mud. It also helps to wrap a wet cloth around the portion of hosepipe going into your exhaust to prevent it melting.
  4. Start your vehicle and go down to the other hole, once to smell exhaust fumes, cap that hole and then turn off your vehicle.
  5. Cap the first hole with your “mud pack”
  6. Leave the tunnel complex as is.

We find that this will effectively gas the entire mole population and they will not return to the same area. Personally I believe it’s better than putting poisoned bait down, but still not 100% green. We only treat area’s that require it, gardens and lawn etc. Our last treatment is four years ago and even though there is mole activity all around the perimeter they have yet to return to the previously gassed areas.

I used one of those spring mole traps that stabs 6 pokers into the tunnle. Worked pretty well till I ran it over with the lawn mower. Oops.

Angel (of destruction) did not tollerate a mole in her yard and would dig them up and kill them. I’m not sure who did more damage. I don’t have ANY pictures of the silly dog?

My neigbors might like this better then the 12 gage going off every now and then.

Growing up in Oakland,CA. my Dad would eradicate gophers in the front lawn by opening one end of the burrow, pouring granulated carbide in and then a small amount of water. The reaction created acetylene gas. Sometimes just gassing the gophers wasn’t enough, so he’d cover the end of the burrow with piece of plywood until he figured the gas had traveled far enough, then he’d ignite it with a newspaper torch! Just thinking about it makes me laugh!! It was REALLY something! Got rid of the Gophers!

and about $1,500 cheaper than the Rodenator!

Greg

Ya I like cheap. Later RJD

We had them here, when we first move out. Our cat takes care of them. I find one he’s left on the front porch every once in a while. Good kitty!

Our cat does a pretty good job on the gophers we have today but my sister-in-law and her husband did a better job. They are both retired Marines and came to visit one time and used our travel trailer. They took a screen off and got a good rifle. In about two days they eliminated our gopher problem for several years.

“Boots” used to sit forlornly on the window box smearing the bloody remains on the window wondering why Mom wouldn’t let her in with her present. Eventually she’d bury it in the window box. The flowers always grew well.
