Early Spring blooms

Took a few pictures of the early Spring blooms in the yard. This is a Flaming Red Peach. It will have Red leaves after it blooms.

The Crab Apple is just starting to bloom

The Redbuds are just starting too.

Blooms should improve for the next week before dropping off. Ralph

Thanks for the encouragement, Ralph. In my zone, we still have about 2 weeks wait for pictures like this. Temps here this AM 23° F clear, 3MPH WSW breeze. Expected high 45°F and sunny. and now for the news…

We’re about the same as David. Still a few weeks away from any bloomin trees bloomin…still in the 20’s at night . I do have some tulips showing their heads…

Nice pix, Ralph.

Spring is happening in WNC

It’s interesting to see how the bloom spreads from South to North with the sun angle change. I used to commute 75 miles South into NJ every day. They were a week or two earlier to bloom and later to drop foliage in the fall. That change made the commute fun this time of year.

Great pictures; we have at least another month plus before we look like you down their. Nice country out that way. I have always loved the southern Appalachians.

I have already cut my grass twice this spring.

What is not weeds, is Fescue. A cool season grass, stays green year round. I don’t know what this bush is called. It has many large thorns. Not like Rose thorns, but very long, like Locust thorns. The fruit resembles a small, shriveled up apple. I have several here. This one is pretty old and about 8 feet tall. Anybody have any ideas? Ralph

Warm winter, early spring, trees are late and dumping junk all over the layout, pond still covered in netting, but the grass is growing and the azaleas are out.

Go figure.

Firethorn? This is a guess. I have all the plant expertise of an addled gnat. Well, maybe not a gnat; I’m a bit rotund for a gnat …

Wow, color! Everything here in Michigan is still gray…

Jon.

I am seeing the sun for the first time since Tuesday. Rain knocked off most of the blooms from the ornamental Peaches. The bright sun seems to have washed out a bit of the color from the photos. These first two pictures are Crabapple trees. I bought them together from the same nursery but they are very different Crabapple trees.

The redbuds are now blooming better.

This is a native Black Cherry tree. This one near the house is blooming. I have a 1/2 dozen of these trees lower in elevation by the creek that are usually one to two weeks behind…just 200 feet away. Ralph

Thank You Ralph. I need a good shot of spring right about now!

Ralph: what is the elevation of those mountains in the background?

Oh man, we are sitting under a good 2 inches of fresh snow…

Jon.

My wife grew this Amaryllis indoors. Ralph
