Well, crud! My photos are disappearing! Fat lot of good that does this thread. No sense in posting further updates here if the photos are going to vanish.

Follow my progress on Facebook. You do not need to have a Facebook account to see the photos:

looks really good!

but i got questions.

did you treat the moss, to stay green?

how, and with what colors did you make the rocks?

The moss is from the craft store (Michael’s) so I’d presume it’s been treated. How, I don’t know.

The rocks are painted with washes of dilute earth tones, starting with a yellow, tan, and brown in splotches here and there, then everything washed over with a dilute dark grey. The results looked a whole lot better in the videos on YouTube than what I got. For some reason, the hydrocal I used didn’t absorb the washes evenly. Maybe there was some mold release left in the molds or something from the previous owners, I don’t know. The result is rocks that aren’t quite as evenly-colored as I was hoping to achieve, but they still turned out okay.

I saw a set in Nicholas Smith’s one day and the price was right.

I didn’t get all that elaborate with a story or a reason to buy it. I just picked a name for it and laid down some track.

10 years later, still “in progress”.

Then Bart got into it and turned me on to a website with 0 scale buildings you could print out on poster board.

That’s what the Ice House is made from.

and I’ll be damned if I can remember the name of it.

http://www.clevermodels.net/ Clever models? Lol

Nice . . . . . . (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

I love following these 0 scale threads. They give me ideaso for my basement.

Steve is getting ideaso? Next Steve is going to be off Devoning.

Kevin your Facebook photos are incredible. Wonder why they will not show up here?? Love the log load, a good way to recycle a household chore.

Been doing that myself with proceeds from the “honey do list.”

Latest update on the Path Valley Railway. Backdrop and new lighting in place. (The backdrop is the work of our own John Passaro.)

I have been reading about strip LED’s on model railroad layouts. Nice to see them working well on your layout. A very good idea. Thanks for sharing. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)Doc Tom

I’ve been buying reels of LEDs for coaches, etc., on Aliexpress. Usually for $1-$5/yard. Some have remotes, some have connectors. Lots of options.

Hey Jon…if I can bring the two of my children who are still teenagers, and you’re willing to feed them for a few days, I might just take you up on that!

It might work, ya never know! I have the room - Travel trailer in the back yard with electric & water. Sleeps 7, comfortable with 4.

This era railroading isn’t my cup of tea Kevin but I’m following you on the long gone lines (I love my local history). In fact you have made me dig out some of the old books I have numerous times. Don’t really do facebook and honestly have not read though most of it but will Perry Lumber be part of it with “Alfarta” taking the old grade?

Never say “never” with respect to Alfarata. I’ve still got the artwork. All I’d have to do is scale it down to 1:48.

The Path Valley is much more of a freelance railroad, not set anywhere in particular geographically. (Let’s face it–the background is a lake in Scottland!) I’m not planning on tapping any prototype models for this beyond just generic inspiration for what strikes my fancy at the time. Wouldn’t rule it out, mind you, but I’m not in the market for an On30 Climax at the moment, either.

Okay, it’s been a while since I’ve done any serious work on the railroad, but I took the past week and really pushed hard to get some scenery done. Here are some photos of the progress.

The facebook album with more photos and descriptions can be found here:

Hopefully the pics show up. I can’t copy and paste the URL from my freight shed files for some strange reason.
