Large Scale Central

SJR&P Phase 7

Ok Stan… After Operating on your railroad this past summer, and knowing the area you all are working in, my back is starting to hurt, just looking at the rocks in the area…

Nice work, looks fantastic…

This was a very satisfying work session. In about three hours we moved all that dirt, covered most of the tunnel, and shaped part of the walkway down the hill. Often times in the same amount of time we move one or two ginormous rocks three feet.

Now back to the full time job to get some rest…

Complete tunnel 2 so you can start on tunnel 4. What about tunnel 3, or was that one cut?

The new extension we are building has 4 tunnels.

Tunnel 1 is a narrow gauge 7 ft tunnel which is dug and is awaiting the roadbed to reach the location before building. Will build the bridge needed to align the grade to this tunnel this winter and hope to complete the tunnel in the spring

Tunnel 2 is a narrow gauge 12 ft tunnel with center access which we are now completing.

Tunnel 3 is a standard gauge 5 ft tunnel. Now that the hill was moved this past weekend we can start digging this tunnel. We expect a lot of rock in this area and are not in a rush to complete this one.

Tunnel 4 is a dual gauge 7 ft tunnel that is dug, lined and awaiting the completion of dual gauge tie strips. We hope to get the top on this one completed this fall.

Fantastic work and description. After being there, you can understand how much work there is to do this.

As the 2016 outdoor construction comes to a close we dug out out last tunnel today.

This tunnel will be a F standard gauge only tunnel and it is on the beginning of our standard gauge interchange. The first few feet are a rock tunnel constructed by first digging out the tunnel, then putting in the side walls, followed by filling the tunnel with dirt and shaping the top.

Once the tunnel top is shaped, the tunnel end is constructed and the top rocks are placed on the dirt. We then pour concrete on the top.

Once cured we dig it out.

In the spring we will lay the track, put the cover on the remainder of the tunnel, and build the font wall on top of the tunnel.

Nice Stan… That’s a bunch of work…

wow did you get lucky and find the curved boulders or did someone chisel and hammer them into shape?

Andy

Lots of fun

Pete

We are lucky in New England. Lots of rocks.

This fall a new subdivision is being build near us that required lots of blasting and lots of rocks to select from. But yes a hammer and chisel was used to get the final shape we wanted.

Once it gets warmer next spring we can complete this section of the railway.
