Lets see your MOW equipment

Well I was going to send you a pic of my 0-5-0 Big Hook, but you should have a good copy of your own…

Why do I smell another Devon tangent blowing in the breeze?

Oh someday for sure I will build an entire MOW consist. But not anytime soon. Not anytime in the near future. OK maybe. . .Well probably. . .no I have other stuff to do first.

Uh huh. That sounds about right.

While we are at it, I have a track cleaning car. I tack it behind a diesel and run it around a few times and it cleans the gunk off the rails.

At the rear are 2 bent nails, spaced at proper wheel gauge, to keep it sliding down the track. I put some drywall sanding screen on the pad, overlapping the groove in the luan spacers, and secure with a gum band (rubber band) in the groove. It cost me a scrap piece of 1x4 pine, some scrap Luan, a spare truck from my parts box, and a left over lead weight from my Heartland Forney bash. In other words, there was no cash outlay for this little gem.

Here’s some of it…

and in case of a blizzard…

Well I did mean scale MOW equipment; but I have to admit I am enjoying your 1:1 MOW equipment as well. Both have their place.

And Ken your plow has always caught my attention. My prototype never had a plow when it was NG but if they were to have one that is something like I imagine it.

Since we all know Ken doesn’t go out in the snow he should send that plow up my way. Ill put it to better use.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Why? It will just sit on the shelf this winter while you plow …ahhh never mind.

well, the Southern & Gulf is poor. they got no MOW cars.

all work is done by local crews.

but we proudly present our MOC (maintenance of crew) car!

Wow, that’s a rather large outflow valve. I guess your crew must be rather “productive”. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Now all you need is the Sears and Roebuck catalog, or the daily newspaper, and the car will be fully equipped.

In addition to the Snow Dozer, I’ve got on my “someday” list to build the following

Ballast Regulator, Ballast Tamper, Hi rail trucks (different desigthe rate I’m building this dozer, ns), Pettibone, and some MOW cranes. Will any of them get done? At the rate that I’m building the Dozer, it’s unlikely anytime soon. But it’s fun to dream!

That is a Butt Modellers car!

That is a great MOC car Korm! I was thinking the same as David about that large outflow pipe.

I think you need a kitchen car too where the cooks specialty is really greasy hot chili !

thanks. - that car was my 2011 entry for the yearly contest.

Krom…

I still say, That the neatest MOW car I have ever seen and most Valuable MOW rolling stock to any R.R… LoL.

With the large drain hose and valve, my guess you have use the Steam Eng. tender tank of water to flush it out.

Devon, I have an entire consist I built. It’s in my albums. Don’t know how to post pics.

Some nice cars in there John

Here’s my MOW Yard and Track Cleaning Caboose.

Dan,

I took notice of your ballast gon. I wondered if many a small railroad would have used a side door gon for just such a purpose. Just shovel it out the sides and then spread it as the car goes by. It would be a simple inexpensive solution.

You’re right Devon, most logging RR didn’t use ballast out in the woods because rails were laid for temporary use. When an area was logged out they would pull the rails and move on. That gon is actually a European model I got for $5 at a swap meet. The picture below is me ballasting my RR back in 2007, it took a lot of shoveling…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Gee, I am tired after shoveling a few wheelbarrows full of stuff. I cant imagine how much shoveling them guys did back in the “good olde days”. Guys must have been in better shape, and had stronger backs back then.

They also died younger!
