Large Scale Central

East Coast Large Scale Train Show

The proposed dates for the 2021 show are March 26th and 27th in Timonium, MD. At the present time, the Cow Palace (Our previous location) is being used for Covid testing and vaccine administration. We hope it becomes available in time for our show. If not, another building on site is being considered, as well as a location in Annapolis (45 minutes from Timonium). Firm dates and location should be "cast in concrete" by the end of February.
Hotel information will be available at that time as well.

I will only consider coming if I can get vaccinated by then. Ohio is #47 so far in the percentage of the population that has been vaccinated and they are still short the required number of doses to finish the 75 and older group that are eligible at this time.

Living nearby, I am interested to see what Star Hobby can come up with regarding the ECLSTS. Will Maryland even allow gatherings like this? I do not know.

A lot can happen in two months.

Jerry

I’m kinda with Gary on this. My group in CT is supposed to open up soon, but no details yet. Even if I can get a shot, I’m not sure I’m willing to travel that far fo a show, that to me, has lost it’s appeal over the last handful of years. I really miss seeing the Drag-n-Brag crew, it’s been almost 2 years since I have seen some of them. Hopefully we can get back to some kind of modified normal by late spring.

I have to mirror Jon’s sentiments, too far to go for an every shrinking show. I have been able to get shot once thru a stroke of luck, and need to reschedule the second. think our normal get together’s will have to suffice.

AL P.

I can’t see how they will get approval for this event unless COVID-19 is non existent in that area of the country, all shows up here in the Northeast are still canceled and being bumped back to 2022.

Until everything returns back to somewhat of a semi normal the wife and I are not making any plans to travel (not even for the upcoming camping season) It was to stressful last year worrying if you could go or not (sometimes coming down to the last minute!).

Canceling / re-booking / canceling, multiple trips last year was enough for me.

I want to travel when I know we can enjoy ourselves again, until then we have a happy home to stay in.

[soapbox on}

I was looking at some pictures of the past on the website, and I am feeling very sad that Memorial Hall in York will never look like that again. We’ll never see Louis Polk sitting up front greeting everyone or Harry Hartman running around like a chicken with its head cut off. The display table with all of our crafts vying for prizes, or the chance to buy so much “stuff”! Getting there and seeing guys walking out trying to carry 20 Show Cars, or the real diesel horn going off in the parking lot. I really miss the Brag & Drag when I only got to see some people once a year and admire their work.

OK, now I’m going to go out back and throw myself under a train!

No wait, they’re all put away for Winter.

That’s one more thing, the show was a harbinger of Spring, that Winter was over and I could get outside to work on the railroad again.

[sigh]

[soapbox off]

I have made it to the show from maine because i also teach a kayak building class in Annapolis and can visit Jerry. This spring’s class is not happening. I dont think enough of us will be vaccinated by then. I’ll be happy to be vaccinated by summer, i am hoping early summer but am guessing later. I am not yet 70 but hope to be vaccinated befor i turn 70 … in 10 years.

I do enjoy the show and seeing all the cool displays and running live steam over on that track. Another fun show also not happening this year is Cabin Fever. Different displays but also fun live steam track! Maybe next year if all the businesses survive.

Our Spring eclsts (notice the small letters) will hopefully be in West Grove, Pa. in the middle of May. I think if we can make that adventure, we are pushing the edge. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Folks;

I missed ECLSTS last year because one of our great nieces was getting married (in Ohio) on the same day. The wedding happened; the show did not. I really do not think it will be safe enough to hold that show in March this year. I hope things will return in 2022, but that remains to be seen. Definitely miss having the show at York, PA. Could stay with a friend east of Hershey and commute to the show. I suppose I will have to save up for hotel room expenses if the show does manage to spring up in Timonium. I really do want to boil water with my friends from all up and down the East Coast again.

Regards, David Meashey

Would that be KOPS?

Yep so bring all your museum pieces so’s we can ogle them (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

While at Ken’s for KOPS, why not stage a “Zoom” or Google meet" for those of us that can’t be there. I’d be glad to kick in some money to help pay for staging it…Maybe Bob McCowan can find time to set it up…at Ken’s…all it takes is a computer and camera at Ken’s, and the knowledge of how to set it up ahead of time…Heck; an outdoor ZOOM meeting could be great fun for quite a number of LSC people who CAN’T BE THERE.

Fred, the FGRS has been doing ‘virtual’ meets / get-togethers most of the Fall. No need for a camera - just bring your tablet or laptop closer to the track and turn on Zoom Meetings. I’m sure one of the participants can figure that out.

I doubt very much if my WiFi connection will reach that far back in the yard. But, hey, it’s worth a try.

I am actually kind of surprised that they are even planning a show. Greenburg shows isn’t planning on trying again until mid summer. The local clubs I belong to aren’t even having in person meetings. Now that there are more contagious variants of the virus emerging, I really don’t relish the idea of being in a confined space with a group of people. I would be counting on all of those people, who I don’t even know, to have been protecting themselves and staying virus free.

I agree, the show isn’t going to like the York shows were, but maybe in a few years the show will take on its own flavor. But I think I would sit this one out if it does happen, and hope that there is a 2022 show.

I suppose a few folks could hook up to a zoom meeting with their phones, maybe wearing something like this around their neck to keep their hands free:

(referring to the camera bracket, not the girl) (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

I’m surprised that Ken has never run a cable out to the trainshed, when he put in the wiring…he is an old cable layer from way back !!!

It would be great to have You two guys, (Ken and Cliff) over on the chat some evenings…if for no other reason, than to have a great chat, on all sorts of subjects…

If she’s is going to be at Ken’s, he better find a few more parking places. I have a feeling he will have a crowd (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)Heck, Fred might even show up (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
