Regulators for battery locos

I’m just about to create my second battery-powered r/c device [photos will be forthcoming when I collect all the pieces.] It will be DSM2 compatible using a cheap recvr I picked up with 4 LiIon 18650 batteries and an ESC from Tony at RCS. It occurred to me that I shouldn’t be powering the recvr (4.5-6V) from the LiIon battery pack (12-16V.)

I think my previous conversion does just that. It is still working, so maybe I tapped the batteries so it isn’t feeding the full voltage. I will have to take it apart and check.

So I believe I need a regulator? I think Accucraft puts them on the coaches to create a constant 5V. I see plenty of regulator ICs on the web, but not a lot of curcuit diagrams. I believe I need a few other components to set the voltage - is there a small device (pcb) that incororates everything?
Advice requested, please, preferably with pictures.

So after some more poking around, I found 2 devices that might solve my problem. Amazon’s has the wires already attached:

My favorite chinese course, aliexpress:

No wires but dirt cheap.

I use the ones from Gary on evil Bay has 2 sizes work great for smoke and lights, and flickering firebox which I make my own (gfhappyboy)

Ah - the panic is over. I emailed Tony who reminded me the ESC has a regulated 5V output for the RX. That’s what my tram is currently using.

Which is not to say I don’t need the regulator, but not for this project.
