Large Scale Central

2-8-0 Build

I see Greg is posting about BBT’s chassis and I didn’t want to hijack the thread.

Back on December 21, 2018 I asked if anyone knew the center to center spacing of the drivers on Bachmann’s K27.

My intent was to purchase Bachmann’s K27 drive rods and kit bash a 2-8-0 from an old battery powered Big Hauler 4-6-0.

Thanks to Joe Zullo for mentioning Barry. Unfortunately, that’s just about the time we all got the news about Barry. I hope the best for him and his family.

And many thanks to Pete Thornton for getting the dimension I was looking for and his many suggestions for modeling.

Well ya all,

I did buy the drive rods and began building.

I used an old battery powered Big Hauler and tender I got for $20.00 and an old generation 5 chassis and drive train I had, from one of my many Anniversary chassis swaps.

I cut up the standard gen. 5 chassis and added new brass side plates, machined the axle bearing mounts and attached everything with nylon blocks machined from a bar I purchased from McMaster-Carr.

Adam,

This I want to see! Please post photos of your progress.

Hi Joe,

I screwed up. Please see my new post.

I wondered where this went(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Ted,

That’s because the LSC security certificate has expired as of last night. See my post in the Web Site forum.
