Casey Jr kitbash on the workbench

What’s on the workbench, kitbashing a Bmann Lil Big Hauler and a Dumbo/Casey Jr popcorn/sippy Disney promo. So far so good, it fits! I wasn’t sure it would until I actually got it as I had no way to judge scale based on pictures, luckily the little bastard is sort-of/almost G, well close enough for government work  Follow up pic show the original popcorn holder -caseys cab roof flips up to hold popcorn and its new drivetrain, and the Dumbo sippy in the tender. The tender will get a new chassis, Dumbo will get gifted to one of my nieces, and a closer to scale Dumbo will get a new car. Circus train will be of much smaller Lil Hauler & HLW minicars cars as Lil hauler locos can’t pull much.

And where did you buy that little gem?

Lou

Ebay, but they’re all over the place price-wise. I got the lowest priced one I could find. Ebay is irritating because they were only $18 each inside the parks when they were on sale there.

Vic,

I always loved that little engine when I saw on my first visit to Disneyland as a kid in August 1955. Just 11 at the time. This is going to look great :)!

i don’t know, what i like more.

your ability, to convert anything into a loco, or your ability to find so much flimsy junk for converting.

WOW Vic !!! This is really clever and neat!

Cool, Vic! Nice job. All the weird angles must have been entertaining to get right.

I think this is awesome!!

Vic,

I hope you consider “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”

Thank you for the inspiration. I gave it to my grandkids tonight and they were thrilled.

Cool! Maybe we can start a trend. Curious to know how you attached it to the chassis. Are you converting the tender as well?

Wow blast from the past. Regret selling it but I got more for it than for everything else I had sold in the last 10 years combined. Reason I sold: it’s motor drive was incredibly poorly designed, I shredded the gears on my first run out of the box because the siderod screws were too tight, I knew if I ran it, it was only a matter of time before I lost the replacement gear.

For attachment to the chassis I made a couple of ABS brackets and glued them to the front and back of the motor block. I then located some solid points on the Casey chassis and drilled corresponding holes in the brackets. I used self tapping sheet metal screws to attach everything together from the bottom. I used a 2" PVC pipe fitting to keep little fingers off the motor and wires.

I didn’t have the tender, but I’m looking for one now. If I do build the tender, I think I will include one of those 30 second recorder/playback modules with the Casey Jr. soundtrack on it. That should drive their parents nuts!

Vic, This was a really enjoyable project. Thanks again for posting your creativity.

Not to derail your thread, I posted to show the details on the Accucraft one if helpful for the conversion. Mine runs surprisingly well for the poor metal in the wheels and very little pickup. mods will include metal trailing wheels for pickup. It has a small zimo and a speaker in the bunker.
