Flared Radiators for USAT SD70

OK Guys, I’m sharing my flared radiator designs on thingiverse. For those of you who are not aware, last fall I brought my original “fantasy” USAT GP38-2 flared radiator shroud https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3731621 to the Big E Amhearst show. I was then asked to create one to more accurately represent the SD70ACe for a George Bush 4141 contest entry. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3731603 Personally, I like the full length one found on the SD70M so I’ve made that one as well. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3731614 There has been much interest in each of these and I had considered printing and selling them myself but I’ve decided to just share them. I’ve enabled the “Order this printed” apps for those of you without access to a 3d printer. Enjoy!

Dan,

You did an excellent job on that SD70 flared radiator. When fitted on those USAT Heritage SD70s, it will make them so much more like the prototype.

Much appreciated,

-Ted

OUTSTANDING !!

Ted,

I know you are familiar with getting things 3D printed. I’m not. How would I go about getting it done? I really would like 2 or 3 sets.

Dan, I noticed you used 0.1mm layer height, what size nozzle did you use?

Thanks Guys!

Paul,

I have enabled the printing apps on the Thingiverse page. Just click “Order this printed” and choose a service. I would recommend Treatstock as you may be able to find someone close by and save shipping. Here is an example of the SD70M version:

Make sure you order the correct number of louvers. Each of these designs should only cost $20-$30 delivered in the US. If you print them for a friend, please be a friend and don’t overcharge them.(https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

I use a .4mm nozzle. Honestly, only the louvers are best printed at .1mm lh. The shrouds and especially the fan plate should be fine at .2mm lh.
