Large Scale Central

NS Derailment Swanton, OH

WOW!!! What way to wake up!!!

Now I know why all the re-routes!

I expect derailments from CN and Amtrak, but NS?! (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Maybe hitting the vehicle that was abandoned on the track had something to do with it David

Of course it did. But in how many videos, the locomotive shreds the automobile and keeps going. Why didn’t it happen that way this time? I know, random chance.

My best guess is that the Tahoe was large enough and placed well enough to foul the flanges or catch in the ties to act as an anchor. That driver/insurance is going to be paying through the nose for clean-up and damages.

Now that’s my kind of garden railroad!!

I like the first video, at 1:04 you can clearly see the lit cigarette in the homeowner’s right hand while he is talking about the pierced propane tank and the smell of the propane was terrible.

Probably figured it had dissipated enough by then.

Can we say Vape. glowing end no smoke from the white tube and it is the same length through the full tape. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Still funny though, a guy smoking while freaking out about the propane, haha! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)[edit: ok, he wasn’t freaking out, and was really calm, under the circumstances. If it were me, I’d be going bonkers and would have taken up smoking again, haha!]

I just couldn’t believe that with all that mass rolling around, and houses and trees being like so many matchsticks in comparison, the cars and IM containers stopped just short of serious damage. Wow!! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

I am glad that the people in that house are OKAY considering all that mayhem. Perhaps Allstate Insurance Co. will show that accident on TV with that guy in their advertisements driving the vehicle that was abandoned on the tracks!

It would be interesting to see how the cleanup operation is done.

This appears to be cellphone video of it happening. Enlarging to full screen on desktop monitor shows that the vehicle hit is attached to headlights facing camera when lower height vehicle enters from right at about same moment that vehicle on tracks gets hit.

#Train #SwantonOhio #TrainHitsCar Train DESTROYS Car stuck on Railroad track in Swanton, Ohio!

Just found this video which looks a little better, https://youtu.be/vMwbHL_zz7M

Is 7 minutes long, starts soon enough ahead of vehicle being struck that it is easy to determine which vehicle was struck.

Not my video. This was taken in Swanton, OH which is just outside Toledo. The NS train came from New Jersey on its way to Chicago however it hit a drunk driver’s car and had derailed the train after it dragged the car to a switch after the collision. Plenty of destruction ensued in Swanton that night. This video actually caught most of the events throughout this ordeal. Video by Eric Layton

Good find Forrest!

See the power flash and then no more electricity in town. Those small fires under the stack cars, that from the switch heaters?

Holy cow! That is wild. Really, really lucky it didn’t take out that house and the people inside.

I had to laugh when the guy from the house said they thought it was a tornado. That’s a switch – usually it’s tornado victims saying it sounded like a train!

Lol so true!
