Large Scale Central

Big ass (yes I said ass) problem.

Okay I am sure someone can answer this quickly and I think I already have my answer but want to make sure before I order. So I made my crane o have a short wheelbase without giving any thought to the ability to mount the couplers. I normally use the 906 coupler. But my wheels are out to the ends and there is no clearance for the draft gear box and the wheels. I can’t/don’t want to move the wheels closer in because the I will have issue with the truss rods which may already be an issue.

Now I am pretty sure I have seen that Kadee makes a sill mounted coupler. If I am correct its the 905. Looking at the “new” g scale couplers this is the only one that makes sense by description. Also where is the best place to get Kadee couplers. Sadly my previous supplier was Chuck Enlow, God rest his soul, I miss him.

This is what I want right?

Devon, Reindeer Railroad is Wisconsin or Iowa or somewhere out there is the best place for couplers. I’ve dealt with them, it’s a wife and her husband, and they’re great. Talked to them on the telephone a couple of times.

I’m sure somebody here will remember the correct names and all; I remember the Reindeer part.

Robbie gave me good deals too.

Both of those sites Look great and I need to do some looking. I ended up getting this one off Amazon for $11.18 and free shipping. Both those sites have them for far cheaper although I don’t know about shipping. For just one in a hurry Amazon is a decent deal. But for my next order, when I order a larger quantity, either of those sites will get my consideration. Thanks guys.

I, also, get Kadees via RLD Hobbies. On a few occassions, when what was needed was not in stock, they arranged to do a “drop-ship” from Kadee directly to me.

I used the sill mount Kadee 905 centerset coupler kit on modified Aristo-Craft Mallet Vandy Tender.

Devon, You got it for about $10.00 cheaper at Amazon versus Reindeer Pass. Yes I have purchased from Reindeer Pass several times, but savings is savings when you are on a fixed income like me.

Edited to clarify the savings is in the shipping. The coupler is a couple bucks more at Amazon.

If all else fails you can always call KaDee, they usualy have some in stock(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

When I need a coupler that is not stocked by one of the usual sources I just order direst from Kadee. Looks like $9.75 for the 905.

You’ll note not all the “original” style offerings are now offered in the AAR style coupler.

A quick count says of the 28 original “versions” sold, only 5 are now sold.
