Town Trolley R.R. Crossing

On our Town of Wilsonville we have a Trolley that starts out at our R.R. Station and has two other station in it 47 foot run.

In the photo you can see where the Station is for the trolley to stops. That also is a Veh and Fire Dept Crossing.

So we need a Veh.Signal for two reasons.

1.) To keep the tracks cleared for our two Trolleys.

2.) To let us know when Trolleys are coming back to town.

One Sig. light will show Red for the two sides to the Veh. and Green for the Trolley when coming in to town.

When the Trolleys timers times out and it changes direction, (Trolley leaving ) then the other Sig. will show Green to Veh. to cross.

This is what they look like using a couple of old Aristo Caboose Marker lamps. Nothing fancy. Then just add a hanging sign on the pole.

Wilsonville for a 3 min. time delay to start it run. A short stop at Pine Hollow Jct. for 25 Sec. Then starts back up to cont. on to Hillsdale Station at the end of the run for 5 min.

Timer rev. and reset other timers relays, start up the travel and make it short stop and on to Wilsonville.

Also, along the Trolley trackage there are a few signal to let you know what direction the Trolley is traveling when they are stopped.

We’ll try to get a video up later on, just to show how the Trolleys slow down for stops and speed up on it runs.

We still have one item yet to fig. out. Its the flip flop relay at Hillsdale station for the two trolley change over due to we are single track.

Right now we just use a manual track switch to change over trolleys tracks.

Neat little project and really an eye catcher for the little ones on open houses.

Nice! I’d like to see the video. Neat idea!

Cool.

Today we install and tested the Trolley Crossing Signal. Some our our guys in our Group ask to show how we installed it so we are show it here for them.

We started out with a few tools but as usually had to make more trips to the tool box. Starting by checking the Trolley clearance to set the pole then with a hammer

and pointed chisel, beat the heck out of it to remove the cement. We used a long Screwdriver to set the hole for the pole.

We made a trench for the wires and tied on the Trolley track due to we are Track power.

Michael… Sorry for this late insert. Hope this helps.

Reason for the long distance wiring for the Signal tie into the track, was at that insulated gap in the photo is the start of the two section travel slow downs Diodes.

Then Trolley come to the third diode for the stop and its used for the Rev. track polarity start up from the timers.

This make the trolley come to a realistic Trolley stop and start up. It a cheap and easy way to go, so we use this idea at all of the stations stops.

Left Photo. Using Mortar and Play/Beach sand mix to fill in the trench and then we used water spray bottle to soak it down. Sets up in about a hr. or so.

Right photo. Show Trolley out of town and has a Green Signal light for Veh. to cross over to the Station.

Left photo. Showing Trolley on it way to the Station with Red light on Crossing Signal.

Right photo. Showing Trolley at the Station but It stops on part of the Veh. road crossing.

i

Works fine and the Signal will go brighter when Trolley is stopped at one of the other Stations.

That for us… in Wilsonville kind of help us to know about where the Trolley is on the run.

Very nice!

Very cool Noel!

That’s pretty neat Pap!

Thanks guys…

Some day, we’ll learn how to from Bob McC. on how to make or post a Articles so not to loose these idea over the years on just a post. Old post for us are very had to find.

Thanks to Greg E.

he pick up a few of them from us to put up on his how to site and is easy to find again.

Noel, that’s easy. Create a notepad file and then cut and past the URL of the threads you want to remember where they are. Be sure and label what URL is for what you want to remember, so you don’t have to open them all to find that one you were looking for.

Good idea for now. Just have to start over again but at our age maybe not.
