Large Scale Central

Refurbished switch tower

After three years in the sun (and sprinklers) this guy was looking a little worse for wear.

The worst thing was the acetate windows. They’d yellowed around the edges and two had cracked and were letting dirt into the interior. Since this is the one building on the layout that you can easily see into, it needed help. I measured and laser cut acrylic windows to replace the ones that came with the kit. They’re clear as glass and I expect them to hold up much better

I re-painted a couple things inside that had faded. Cleaned out the dirt/dust. The LEDs were slowly fading, so I replaced all the lighting (including the working floor lamp) and added an interior light downstairs. A new base plate and it was ready to go back outside.

The one thing I haven’t sorted is the broken vent pipe/chimney on this side of the roof. I looked through my parts box for something to replace it with, but I think I’ll need to fabricate something from brass.

Came out very nice!
