Large Scale Central

A 1:1 garden railway

The owner was CEO of Chiltern Railways in the UK and decided to have his own on his estate…so he imported a Darjelling loco in a shipping container…rebuilt it…added coaches and this is the result. Note the inspection car!! He has some “backyard” !!

Note the railings on the pilot where guys stand to throw sand on the rails?

I can’t find the video right now, but two guys standing there casting handfuls of sand on the rails at the steep spots.

They actually do this on the real Darj railway …the loco carries about 8 staff! coalers…drivers…sanders…and believe it or not…the smokebox door is sealed with cow manure…Couple of good books available on the Darj…Iron Sherpa Vol 1 and 2 being amongst the best but darn expensive tho!!

Vol2 has scale drawings of EVERY bit of rolling stock ever…Each volume is printed on heavy gloss paper and each volume weighs a fair amount…(Too heavy to read in bed thats for sure!!)

I wonder what the folks who built those locomotives would have thought, if they had known they would still be running after all this time.

That IS a “back yard railroad” . . . for sure ! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

I also like the model T speeder! Visions of Maine there!

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing.

Great video… Certainly a love for railroading and keeping the past remembered… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
