G scale plastic track

Hi can anyone tell me who sells G scale plastic track i need some for my indoor storage tracks and i only run battery and radio control i only need straight sections aswell thanks Tod.

Train-Li is the best known for flex track, and several people have used it.

If you wanted sectional track, you might find old Bachmann or New Bright, but unless you get it virtually free, it’s not worth the $$

Greg

Hammond Toys in Utah sells or did sell decent plastic track from Newqida from China. 12" straights and R1 curves and R1 switches. Haven’t heard much about them recently so don’t know if he’s still importing the stuff.

Ok ill have a look thanks

Do you really need track that looks like track? If not, just use any old pieces of wood to form the rails. I’ve even tried wood 1/4" dowel. I imagine even balsa would work.

The Trainli track is flex track and rail is 5 foot lengths, ties are 1 foot but need to be cut to be flexible. These come 10 in a pack and I have cut them in the pack with a band saw (10 at a time). Ties are available in different colors and are cement style.

Hi i was going to try 12x3mm alluminium flat bar and sloted wood sleepers for my storage tracks

For just storage, why go through the trouble of building track? A simple strip of wood, that fits between the wheels, will do

for actual running track, I can see taking the effort to build it.

Another method is to just use a table saw to cut a channel in wood. Just space the second cut to the wheel width.

Wheel width, or flange width?

How about the distance BETWEEN the outside edges of the wheel flanges on one axle. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Tod, Martin Belkin makes and sell plastic track. He is a member of the Gateway Garden Rail Road club in the St Louis area.

I would do flange width, not wheel width. For the hook and loop springs and Kadee hoses, these need to be above the wood to prevent any damage so just recess the flanges with the cuts in the wood.

You can also use the bachman tin crap track for storage inside as it won’t matter if it rusts, i even use it outside for sidings and have only replaced 1 track in about 9 years so far in NY

I guess you don’t run track power! Also the Bmann tin track does not mate well with solid rail. Besides being hollow, the profile is a lot different. I use my Bachmann track for a quick and dirty test track on my workbench. My KaDee coupler coupler gage is stored with 2 pieces of that track, for quick checks of coupler height, when I am working on my rolling stock.

So Tod, what was your decision about plastic track?

Martin’s plastic track is the track that Train-li is selling… The ties are modern looking cement ties.

Train Li also has brown (looks black to me) standard gauge and narrow gauge wood style ties. I mean plastic ties that look like wood ties, as opposed to plastic ties that look like cement ties.

25 feet of plastic (display) track, choice of ties, $49.95
