Making Links Work

What’s the proper way to make links work?

I tried typing in a in a few words, highlighting them, then hitting the link button and pasting in the URL, but that doesn’t give a working link.

I tried it here with a link to my home page.

When I do that, it attempts to go to a bad URL:

I think it worked for me yesterday - Lets see. I click on the Link button. Paste my link in the URL. Type my text in the text box replacing what is there and change the Target ti a New Window. Does it work?

Steve’s Early Spring Thread

NOPE - Bad Link. Went into Source Code mode and it looks perfect. Hmmmm…

The old system used to barf if there was an http:// in the link. I’ll try editing that out in the source code…

NOPE - Still buggered.

Pasted then edited out http:\

CRAP - no luck.

OK, one more try. Forget the Link button. Press the Paste as Text button, then just paste the URL: http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/23305/2015-official-spring-run-thread

No nice text , but I think it will work.

Yes I did get that to work, but it’s just not as pretty.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Wait, when did THIS break?

I thinks it’s always been broken in this version. Just wasn’t’ a big deal.

Yep, Jon is correct. It’s always been broken with this software.

Hell. The new editor has a LOT of options. Unfortunately, the default setting for a lot of them are broken. Grrr…

Bob, broken parts, new out of the box? Maybe you should send it back to the manufacturer for repair. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Don’t worry, someday they will come out with an “update” to fix some of the broken stuff, and break other stuff.

Thats the way it always is. Having written software for 30+ years, no matter what you test, SOMETHING gets broken somewhere. At least we get nifty new features with it…

Bob, I know. I am a tech who works with the end product, and a consumer. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

OK. Debugging this one is another fun one. The links are OK in the database, the post looks like it should. So its something on the output side. But that code is just displaying the data… wha??

This is a broken link

Not anymore. Turning on “Auto-Detect links” breaks making links. So I disabled that feature.

I was going to say, the link woiked fur me.

Auto detect makes them not work. Oh, some more reverse pelican logic.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif) I understand. Thanks Bob!
