A Rail Truck.............again

I didn’t really need another one but couldn’t pass up the deal TrainWorld had on them, so…

I decided to get one and put a van body on the back this time.

Tore out all the innards and fixed the play in the drive shaft

yoke.

Had some lexan laying around so I built the van body from that. Pretty basic, just a rectangular box.

Didn’t have any thin styrene to cover the box with so I ran up to Lowes and bough a couple of “House for rent” signs. Used that to cover the lexan. Made the doors separate so they stand out a bit more.

Used some thin brass rod for the door hinges and some strips to for the door latch.

Coat of paint and all I need now is the decals.

I have a RailLinx RC and Phoenix ordered for it.

and I guess I 'll have to change the number on one of them…

Nice job Ken. Those rail trucks are neat

looks good Ken

Sharp Ken. I can see the POC herald on there now…

not bad good job

Richard

That looks great Ken and looks like it went together easily. For some reason the finished truck reminds me of a paddy wagon or maybe a armored car. Instead of the US Mail it could be a Wells Fargo truck which would give reason to make a few gun ports? Or not. I like it.

Nice! Looks right.

Ken, it came out nice…

Great job Ken,

Your posting tipped me over the edge, I had to call and order one this morning.

Talked to some “nice guy” I miss the “crusty Gal” that I always talked to before:)

Pretty neat Ken. Pretty soon everyone will have at least two.

Misery loves company…

The J&B needs one too, Bruce…

Nice!

Nice work as always Ken. When its done you can send it up to North Jersey.

A great little car Ken, it did cross my mind that this might be a good model to form part of your creamery supplies or deliveries. Whatever you decide it will make a good model when weather is too cold to get out much stock.

Nice looking truck, Ken. How did you fix the play in the drive shaft?

It wasn’t really the play in the drive shaft, but in the bearing where the drive shaft connects to the gear box. Dave Goodsen mentioned That the screws holding the bearing in place were too long for the holes and needed to be cut a bit so the yoke holding the bearing was a tighter fit. There was too much slop in it. You have to take the cab off and the seat out to get to it. Not too difficult.

Not much you can do with the play in the drive shaft itself. That’s a gearing problem. Too much play in them.

Nice touch to the truck. I may get around to doing an up grade to mine some day. If I recall Dave mentioned you could use the screws hold the plow on for the bearing plate as they where smaller. I reworked mine and runs great. Even got DCC with a neat truck sound in it. Later RJD

Got half the decals on…

Still have the other side to do,

see if this ones any smaller…

Looks good Ken. I got sucked in also ordered 4PM yesterday was hear at 12:30PM today
