Staying signed in to the site?

Bob,

i never sign out , but on a farly regular basis when i come back to the board i see the new message icons and after i finish reading i go to mark all as read and find i am signed out. i thought i should not be seeing the new message icons when i am signed out? and why the often automatic logout? using ie9 for reference

I see the same thing. I regularly connect from 3 different computers (Home, Job #1 and Job #2). The un-read post flags are pretty weird. Most of the time Home stays logged in but it’s a crap shoot with the work machines.

Might the log-in state cookie have a shelf life? I use the home machine much more regularly

I’ve learned to look for my name at the top of the page while in the forums when I first connect to be sure I’m signed in.

Bob who?

I’m still seeing a fairly random pattern of being signed out, so that when I next return I have to sign in again. Is there a 30-day timer or something?

I’m seeing the same kind of thing as Pete but it happens on more than just this site. It also seems to happen more when I am on my iPad than my desktop or iPhone. Not a big deal except when I forget my password …

Have you clicked that little box named Remember Me?

Don

Doc, I do check that box. But I am seeing that sometimes when I open a thread, and I get to the bottom and want to post on the thread, I am not logged in. Even though I was logged in on the home screen, and on the other thread I opened.

Could it be a difference between browsing with “http” and “https”? Your session is unlikely to match between the two if you are switching back and forth.

Mine sometimes does the same thing. Other times I am signed in for a week. Yesterday I was in several times but today I was signed out! No logic I can see.

Very funny. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)Yes, and I usually stay signed in for weeks.

I had wondered if it happens when you pick up a tablet and use that - so you are on a different device as far as LSC is concerned. But I haven’t used my tablet since last time I signed on my laptop.

Guess trying the tablet and seeing what happens would be a useful experiment. . .

It’s infrequent that I need to sign back in. It’s nice to be remembered by something, so I always check that box! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Sometimes it seems a month, other times a week.

I use the iPad to read forum notes but I use the Mac Mini to answer notes. But I do look at the notes that come into the mail and open them on the iPad from there.

Maybe that is what affects them!

I noticed my login expiring too. With the browser updates, it sometimes clears the cookie I think, and maybe the site does it too on a regular basis.

Bob???

I have seen several forums use the 30 day “you need to sign in” requirement.

I believe this helps the web master to clear out the robots that continually want to log in and create havoc.

I have no problem with this feature only need to refresh my login once every 30 days. Today was a login day for me.
