      Sams semi automatic L&P coupler

Does anyone have drawings, sketches, dims for the Sams semi automatic L&P coupler. I'm finishing up a series of 1:20.3 V&T cars dated from the 1890's and they have Sams couplers. Anything related to Tower couplers from the same era would be great as well

      Thanks

Neat.  I had never heard of a SAMS coupler before today.

      Looking at these pictures:

Why not start with a commercial casting such as those available from Ozark Miniatures?    That, plus the pictures over at Narrow Gauge Discussion should get you a bit closer.

Not sure what I am doing wrong, but I cannot get the pictures to display.  Can anyone else see them?  Or better yet, could somebody else post them so they WILL display?

I'd really like to see what these couplers are like.

      Dave:

They display fine for me.  I did a cut & paste into this response and also into an email.  Do they display for you now?  If not, you could PM me and supply an email address and I'll send them to you.  No guarantees.

David, I have seen that before but usually it is me that can't see them, so I do understand your frustration.   I wish I knew what FIXED it...sometimes it just seems like waiting a bit and they suddenly show up - Or, I come back to them later and there they are!   Who knows?

Interesting couplers and claims. I see even in those days they didn't understand the difference between semi-automatic and automatic!

The"Tower"coupler, introduced in1892,was the first fully-automatic coupler in existence up to its time. It was unique in that it provided an internal lock set feature which eliminated the necessity of holding the lock in raised position to uncouple. Another innovation was that the coupler could be unlocked and the knuckle thrown fully open by manipulation of the rod extending to the side of the car.
