Large Scale Central

A couple vids from my layout

I’ve been absent for a bit and haven’t even rain trains in a couple months. But, I have made a few videos prior to that absence.

I picked up a new to me dash 9 back in December. Since this video, I have also picked up more csx bethgon’s.

This is a video of switching cars around with a couple dash 9’s.

This video shows where I finally got around to getting the fence put up around the parking lot at the Scot Lad Warehouse. I am working on making the parking blocks for the spaces the cars park at now. I need to get the fence in around the loading dock area next.

Andy has taught you well grasshopper…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Great video, thanks for sharing.

The railroad looks great Matt . Love the video’s ! Kicking back watching trains go by and having a beer at the same time . Life is good !

Great Vids Man, Thanks for letting us see them

Dennis

Ken, Shhhhhhhh. Don’t say that out loud. It will ruin his image! haha!!

Thanks Ric!

Mike!!! Long time no see. Thanks! Can’t beat a nice warm day, a cold beer, and some trains! Hope all is well up north!

Thanks Dennis!!

Matt,

Way cool! Kid-zilla (4) has a “diesel fetish,” so he watched with rapt attention and uttered with great satisfaction, “Ahhh….the man…drinking a beer…and watching trains…”

Thanks for sharing!

Eric

Eric, that is awesome. I love me some diesel engines too! Oh, and beer. That’s not too bad either. hahahah!

I think your kid-zilla (4) has things figured out in life. Relax, and watch trains! haha!!!

Matt, nice set of video’s… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Matt where did you get the big industrial building in the second video?

Also, did you put any reinforcement wire or bar in the bases for the buildings and the roadways? Always love your video work what do you use to edit them?

Pete, that building I built out of many panels from Colorado Models. The inside is completely braced with the panel supports too. I cut the hole in the wall to allow a train car to go in. I made the rail service entry to only allow regualr height cars. It will fit 50’f or 40’f box cars inside, but no high cubes. I loosely modeled this after the Scot Lad warehouse in Eldorado, Il. Eldorado is only about 10 minutes from me and they had a large warehouse there with rail service, back in the day. Scot Lad would deliver goods to all the little mom and pop grocery stores in town.

I didn’t reinforce the roads. I probably should have. I was just going to use some metal screen mesh I had, but for whatever reason at the time I was pouring, I chose not to use it.

Thanks Pete!!! I just use windows moving maker. I don’t use anything fancy at all.

I kind of thought they looked like the Colorado Models panels, as I have a building in front of me right now. Too bad they are down , I bought 4 kits from them just before it closed up or shut down. They were good quality and inexpensive. Keep up the videos, I will attempt to post a few from mine sometime soon.

Hmmm is this your video Matt ?

Pete, I have a couple of those structures. I really like them and they hold up well.

Sean, yep that’s my video. I just made a short layout update video.

OK how much track do you need for that project?

Sean, he only needs about 5 foot… Everything seems larger in pictures/film… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

LOL @ Andy!!!

It might be a bit more than 5 feet. haha. I’m not really sure how much track it will take. Maybe around 300ft. I haven’t measured, but I have a ton of track and switches. My fence panels are 8ft long, not 6’, if that helps as a reference.

I have noticed that … even your pic … (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Matt , I am guessing the going to move in couple of years you said a couple of years ago has been changed!!! That extension/ addition/ annexation/ hostile takeover of the county will be awesome to watch. Will you be double tracking this , so we can watch opposing trains all over the layout? I am good at spending other peoples money on good ideas!

Pete, yeah, that was when things didn’t look to good here. I was job hunting pretty hard, and the career wasn’t going to be here. That was probably a year and a half ago…maybe, I can’t rememver. So, I did nothing to the layout but run trains for a long time. But, things look good now. Really good. So, I’ll plan on retiring from this career in about 11 years or so. Then move to warmer climate.

I’m off work until…I think August…so I have some good time on my hands to get some work done. I’m not sure how much detail I’ll even do to the extension. It may just stay as the pvc road bed for a while. I say that, but I REALLY have one scene that I want to try and model. Soooooo, I may try and do that. We shall see. I am going to finish the town next. And I know my ocd probably won’t be able to take the fact it looks unfinished with just pvc roadbed… I just hope I don’t buy a ton of those retaining wall blocks. Ugh. Seriously, I will have to fight that urge.

No double tracking. It will all be single track mainline. IF, I have room there will be a loop for a coal mine and a flood loader, then on the other side of the yard a power plant. I want to be able to run a point to point with a coal train, but I’m afraid I won’t have the room to do it. I have a siding at SRB feed and seed. It will hold a local with a few cars. If I make the track go through the fence and around, that could be another siding. So, there could be opposing trains. But, it’s just me running trains. I have had Ken Miller from Mt. Juliet, Tn. come by and run trains. Also Scott and Aaron Fowler have come over and ran. Ken is coming back this fall to run and the Fowler’s are waiting on me to get done withe the track expansion. haha.
