New Mine

Those of you that were here last near may have noticed the concrete block wall at the end of Dead Rooster Gulch. This is where yet another mine loader is going to be. Finally got the basic frame cut out and assembled. Gondolas will be spotted on the wooden trestle at Steppes, and equipment will come in via flats and boxcars at the top, where the loading dock is under the trackside overhang.

Roosters not dead man …he is on vacation in Argentina with Elvis,Morrison,Hitler,Jackson,Hoffa and “Slated” to return soon.

What are they mining again ?

Looks great Bob, and I’m looking forward to watching your build!

Is the material… what, Gatorfoam? Or a plastic-skinned version of that?

3/4" PVC sheet, got it at Home Depot. I dont think it was branded, but its the same as Veranda board. Easy to cut with my Rockwell saw, and I back, glue, and screw every corner.

Heard there were veins of unubtainium out that way so I was only asking as the silver mine apparently has been cleaned out.

Can you glue styrene or ABS to PVC sheets? Might be an interesting way to detail out a PVC building.

Yes, and it works pretty well.

The issue I have is the thermal expansion between the thin sheet and thick backing can cause bubbles. I used it on my coaling tower, and now have a couple of issues I need to address.

I havent done any progress photos of this, but yesterday I set it out in its final resting place. There’s lots of work to be done around it, to fit the stone work and sidings to the building, but at least its not taking up 1/3 of my workbench any more.

And, it has some lights.

Very nice

Looks like it will gather quite a bit of Upsidaisium(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Looking very nice Bob

That works!

Hey, I thought that Upsidaisium was nonexistent, but it’s properties and location are pretty well documented.

Perhaps it’s time to rewatch my full collection of The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends, unfortunately they are on VHS and I’ll have to watch on old technology. Something else to do while at home.

Thanks Bob for prodding my memories!

It’s all looking wonderful Bob! And I sure love that night shot.

Nice, Bob! Is the siding a commercial product or repurposed beverage can?

Thanks,

Eric

Neither! Its steel shim stock (5/1000s) run through the crimper. Rusts up nicely.

Thanks, Bob!
