Burning the Rails

Effected, not affected, “Once the track is warmed, it’ll be re-bolted, or welding repairs can be affected on the broken tracks.”

People who write to earn their mortgage and grocery money should know that, shouldn’t they?

You would think. I believe younger journalists depend too heavily on their computers and spell checkers to look up the meaning between words before using them.

Not anymore it seems. The Proof reader died off with the PC and spel chuck rarely cares about the meaning, if it’s spilled ok.

I entered feedback on it. Will be interesting to see what if any response comes.

The Deshler, Ohio, camera on Virtual Railfan’s YouTube channel earlier this afternoon had a CSX crew heating rail and adjusting bolts at the crossing diamond.

And in related news from Amtrak;

Sub-zero temperatures result in two days of cancelations, including short distance routes, both Wednesday, Jan. 30, and Thursday, Jan. 31

Extreme weather conditions and an abundance of caution have led Amtrak to cancel all train originations to and from Chicago for Wednesday, Jan. 30, including short-distance corridor trains and long-distance overnight trains. Short-distance services are also canceled on Thursday, Jan. 31, and most long-distance services to or from Chicago are also not expected originate on Jan. 31.

EDIT: Forgot to add that we seem to be avoiding the worst of it way down south of Chicago here in Missouri.

The only Amtrak MidwestSM services now scheduled to originate this Wednesday and Thursday are the two Missouri River Runner round-trips between Kansas City and St. Louis.
