Battery and Sound Car For LGB Porter

I have built a Battery Car for one of my LGB Porters[IMG][img]

I wanted this to look like a enclosed boxcar type enclosure has been added to a flat car.
I used 1/8" plywood for the for the inside panels, and 1/8" plywood for the outer bracing.
I use a laser to cut the grain lines in the plywood, which makes it look like single boards fastened together as they were in real life.
And using the laser to cut the outer bracing out and glue the two together.

Looks great!

Are you going to put on any grab handles / railings ?

Nice work. That will look good with the Porter.

I have done the same thing with my porters and 2 axle engines. One is a two car set of hollowed out lumber loads. An Airwire is in one and the battery in the other.

Thanks for the compliments

I will finish off with something on the platform, not sure yet,

John , I have considered hollowing out a load of logs did, that work out good.

Dennis

You actually don’t hollow out the log load. I velcro the battery in the center and build up the load with long logs on the sides and short ones in front and behind the battery and then top off the load with long logs all the way across. You can put a dab of silicone on the short logs to hold them in place. Then I snug the load down with a “rope”.

I am going to make a battery log car for my heavy skeleton string.

Inside this load is a 14.4 V Nihm sub C pack.
