Aristo two axle freight cars

Has anyone had experience running these 20’ cars? I am particularly interested in how they track over slightly less than dead perfect track. Also, since I do alot of switching, how do they perform, in groups, when backing into sidings.

I converted all mine to trucks, they are lousy IMHO.

I kinda thought as much, Vic. I like shorter rolling stock and have been converting LGB 300mm stock to four axles. The two axle chassis swap out perfectly with the LGB short four axle chassis.

Something about the spring loaded axles and the end beam couplers makes them really finicky and easy to derail. Once I switched to trucks with couplers all the problems went away.

The aristo 20’ cars have the same wheel base as a Bachmann bobber caboose and they will respond the same way to rough track and backing maneuvers. Depending on your type of RR maybe the bobbing, bouncing and weaving will look good?
I have several of the aristo shorty cars including a track cleaning caboose. I don’t use them that often but they do look good. I have a few for sale on Ebay right now.

My cranberry train.

I had an Aristo bobber caboose. It kept coming into Fair haven bouncing along on its side, hanging on with its knuckle coupler for all it was worth. Its now a table lamp.

There was a reason they called them bobber cabooses!!!

I will add switching to trucks really improves their looks as well as performance.

One of the problems I had with the short cars was they came with plastic wheels but had metal bushings. When I tried to replace them with metal wheels, the metal bushing shorted the metal wheel to the metal shaft. Any one else experience this and solution?

Thomas, a #4 nylon washer on the axle end should fix that.
