Help with a Tap and Die set for Riveter

I’m having a real problem locating a .050 tap and die set for a Northwest Short Line Riveter. My Connie rebuild is on the back burner until I can find one.

Anyone know of a place I can get a set?

I already contacted NWSL, and they dont have an ETA on new ones.

Hmm…wonder what’s up?

I see that MicroMark is also out of the one I have: http://www.micromark.com/rivet-embossing-set-for-emboss-it-model-rivet-simulator,9310.html

I did find this one, but it’s not cheap at all: http://www.metalsmith.co.uk/rivet-embossing-tool.htm

Also found references to a GW Models Rivet Press, but no web site.

Another alternative is the Archer resin decals: http://www.archertransfers.com/SurfaceDetailsMain.html

I’m not a very good decal guy. I can get by, but thats about it. I already have the riveter, but not the proper die. I wonder if that metal smith one would work. If anything i can adjust it to fit in the collar of the Sensipress.

I’m almost at the point of making my own die but I’m not real comfortable doing that.

I just wonder why there aren’t any around?

Want to borrow mine for a bit?

I’m not sure Bruce.

I really appreciate the offer and I might take you up on that. But luck would have it, I found an old punch and die set from a tool I use at work. It isnt the right size, but I think I can shape the punch so it works. I’m going to try to experiment with that.

I looked into the link you provided for metalsmith and contacted them. They have the punch and die set for their tool, but it looks like I could modify the set to fit into the Sensipress.

Oh also I also found the references to the GW Models in some airplane modelers forums, it looks like the press is made from a guy who works out of his garage. Nothing wrong with that, but the last reference I found in 2010 stated the guy was wanting to retire. That dont bode well for one being available.
