Large Scale Central

My HOn30 Microlayout Project

Might as start to keep track of this project. I started this back in 2004 but due to the crap drives then available in N for small critter type engines I never finished it. Recently I tried using a battery powered XTC Train Sytems toy train and found it worked pretty well so I’m going to finish it The Micro as built to date.

The idea was an easily portable self contained display layout. Front view showing the base built for it, the grey paint is just a base coat, it will painted closer to my large scale southwestern themed portable layout.

Base holds the powerpack and a storage drawer for trains.

Overhead view of the town area.

Eye level shot, think I need to consider a better camera for close in shots.

Just thought I’d include these, the original train, a Bachmann Docksider rebuilt to Hon30

Yes, those are N Kadee’s on there, still figuring how I managed to put them on. Not a bad looking little critter. The idea is that with both the B’mann and the XTC, I can take this setup anywhere and just set it down and run, if I have power, I can put the B’mann on or if its somewhere without power, use the battery XTC train, either way a great little way to put the word to the streets! BTW heres a graphic depiction of the shear size difference from what I’m now used to.

That’s the battery XTC Train System unit newly rebodied in front of a G gauge mining critter

Looks good vic. I have a bunch of n scale laying around. I should do a small layout. I have the bachmann old timer set I got over 15 years ago plus a ton of rolling stock.

More plants added, been staining the roadway darker, I wanted a gravel road but I think I used too large a ballast rock, maybe I can add a finer layer on top, maybe I’ll paint it darker, any suggestions?

Might want to shut the door their buddy… This is the figure from the above “something you get the bear sometime the bear gets you” Woodland Scenics scene, I just switched the participants. This is incomplete as I need to find a couple more very specific figures to finish off this scene, trust me… it will be funny  (BTW anyone know where I can find a female aiming a gun figure???) PS anyone who thinks this is offensive needs to remember, its mearly a peice of painted metal that is WIDELY available. So relax a little.

Thats great vic. You need to find a park Ranger with a gun to shoot that bear. Whats the size of the layout. Im thinking of doing something similiar.

Hi Shawn

Its HOn30, HO on N track, and its about 9 inches x 10 inches, so I’ll be VERY interested to see if you make something smaller

Mind you Carls website is full of tiny layouts that make this layout look obese!

Yet more Progress… not that anyone other than Shawn seams to care…

UH OH ! Old man Ferdman has found unexpected guests in the honeypot house !!! I changed the roadbed by painting it then adding the brown ballast to the wet paint, smoothed it out alot. Also added two facades to the rear to help terminate the road/walkway and help give the town a forced perspective of more depth. All the major left is the track ballast. I dont know whether to do it in the grey rock or just continue aounr with the brown. Also I dont have a clue what to do with the left foreground next to the station, I’m thinking of somekind of minehead, but its such a small area I’d have to scratch it. Oh well balast first then I’ll worry about that corner.

I’m actually having a whole lot of fun with this dinky little layout

I care.
I like how you subtly blend guns, violence and men with their pants down
Ralph

That is great, who says you need a large layout. Its all about detail and vic you did not miss a thing

In case anyones interested, finally finished this project. Welcome to Furlow Corners

Nice job.
Ralph

VIc, that is really cool! Bravo Zulu!

Vic, love it. When you get tired of the layout you can just send it over my way. LOL

Vic, Nice job…makes me rethink doing a smaller scale layout just for fun…altho the pizza layout in LS is easier on the eyes!!! Dave
