Since I just joined the forum today and couplers are of interest to me I would like to know how you rate the knuckle couplers by brand. I've been in G scale for some 30 years and have always used the LGB Knuckle couplers, true they are probably the most over sized one on the market, but they have always worked well for me. I did purchase most of my coulpers (LGB) some 25-30 years ago and at a cost of around $5.00 a pair. When I look at what it would cost me to change all them out for a more to scale coupler today I sometimes wonder if it's worth the cost, were talking 40 pair here.

If they are working well for you, why would you consider switching?   What are you looking for in a coupler?

    • I would be interested FR. Fred. I have seen them sell for anywhere from $4 a pair to a ridiculous $20 a pair.

What demand is there for Aristo Knuckle couplers ?    What prices are being asked for them ?

I'm considering a possible clearance of some...

There are also some Bachmann couplers in the pile....even the odd metal one...

      Dennis,

I have about a dozen packs of "Marker lights w/jewels and brackets"

None of the packs are marked OM34

      they are marked

      OM 34120

      #1028

      #1030

The products were renumbered several times through the years depending on product movement and other things.

The biggest shift in numbering came when  1:20 scale took off.

Near as I have been able to determine no matter the numbers used the parts are the same.

Take a look at OM's page under 1:20 scale detail parts for the marker light kits.

If interested in some contact me.

      Thanks Rick

Thanks, have to figure out which one will look right on the caboose.

I have a "17th National Garden Railway Convention" Caboose made by HLW. I lost one of the marker lamps.

HLW does not have any stock on this marker lamp.

    • Rick:

Thanks.  Since this is new it is way too shiny so at worst case I'll mess it up trying to get it apart before aging and rusting it up.

    • May 26, 2020 7:12 PM EDT
    • Mark,

The one I obtained was broken in two pieces and crusty.  I could find no way to get it apart for really good cleaning so just wire brushed it and used a couple sizes of brass tubing

and epoxy to extend the tower.  Not much help I know but something to consider.

    • Jason, Rick or anyone else:

I finally received a MTH Water Column from an ebay purchase after canceling my repeatedly delayed order from a "real" seller.

So, before I totally mess something up can someone enlighten me on how to remove the column so I can replace it with a taller one?  It appears to be held together by the finial on top and the base shroud on the bottom.  I can remove the giant Phillips screw on the base but that only removes the base from the column. It appears that the 5/16 column is possibly glued, painted in or somehow attached to the finial and shroud and my attempts to twist them apart has failed.  So I thought I'd ask before I apply more draconian methods.

Thank you for whatever assistance you can provide.
