There you go, a philosophy of a rail transportation system carried out quite often by “live steamers” and others who run trains with an imagined manifest that is just an engine or group of engines. Anything that you expand on from there, that brings the reason for moving rail equipment is the beginning of your rail transportation system. Its all in the philosophy.

We used to put lots of man hours on the patrol boats by the Captain stating “Get out there and show off the flag”. Same thing with your layout, have a purpose. Our job today is to provide background scenery for the bar-b-q going on up by the patio. There is a reason to run a train. And BY GOD you best do a good job or there will be hell to pay after the guests leave.
