45 tonner gets some upgrades

Finally buttoned up my 45 tonner with the Revo, etc, out of the Guilford SD-45 I sold a bit ago.

Bob;

Real nice job on the 45 tonner. Kind of wish I had bought one when they were being sold at blow-out prices. The standard gauge width would not have been a clearance problem on the layout I had then - no tunnels!

Regards, David Meashey

Thanks Dave. I really like it, its a pretty good runner. I have two other parts ones I’ve picked up over the years, but I wish I had grabbed a couple more when they were going cheap. Ah well.

Nice work Bob. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Really nice, Bob! A pair of these are the main locomotives on our historical railroad. Kid-zilla will go nuts when he sees this clip!

They make great bashing fodder as well as good runners out of the box.

I kept one stock (more or less) and completely bashed two: one into a standard gauge box cab and another into a calf.

I want to get another one for bashing up into 7/8 scale.

They are really good runners; especially if you eliminate the spring contacts on the trucks by hard wiring directly to the motor. When these were being sold I documented the process for a GR article that I never finished or submitted. All my photos are on-line here (link). They are pretty self explanatory.

EDIT: It’s pretty tedious looking at the pictures with the interface on my webspace as each one needs to be clicked individually. You can pull them all down at once for off-line viewing with this ZIP file: http://lsc.cvsry.com/44TonTruck/45TonTruckFix.zip

You can even use’em to push bricks around on your layout…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Update: Kid-zilla was very concerned it wasn’t running on a track!

Have a great weekend!
