Rebuilding a SD40-2
Sometime before USA Trains offered its recent selected diesel shells with chassis for sale, I had obtained a used Union Pacific SD40-2 that was stripped of its trucks and all detailed parts.
Over time, I got most of the replacement parts from USA Trains and rebuilt the loco.
I already have a Southern Pacific SD40-2 that I got new in year 2012 and fitted it with the optional snow plow, but with the Union Pacific loco, since the hoses were not available, I plugged the large pilot opening and got the GP38 hoses as substitutes.
I ran the UP SD40-2 (with 2 other locos) on a train yesterday (4/3/2020) and made a video, “Rebuilt USA Trains SD40-2 First Run”, hosted for me by Greg E. on his Youtube site. Be advised the video is a bit jerky and out of focus in some parts.
