Paul, I noticed one of the pictures that Mike had posted with the RS3s included a glimpse of the Caboose.

Paul, where did you get the leaf springs to fit the USA Trains Bettendorf truck, or did you use some other aftermarket truck that included the leaf springs?

      Thank you,

      -Ted

      Michael,

More oldies but goodies. The layout has changed quite a bit since then.  The N.P. mallet is not mine.  It belongs to an NP fan who used to come to our op sessions but has dropped off the map for the last few years.

Paul, looking forward to any updated photos here when you get the chance.  Ted has a question above about your USAT SP Bay Window Caboose trucks.

      Michael and Ted,

The bay window is one I built, I think around 1997.   It was from a kitbash article in Outdoor Railroader.  Represents a  C40-4.  The USAT bay window is nowhere close.  If Ted is wondering about the leaf springs, they are castings available from Ozark.  I will be posting in a day or so a new photo of the WEATHERED  SF GP40 along with a just finished SF Ce-8 caboose with some really nice 3D printed leaf springs.  I have no intention to do anymore SF.  One loco, one caboose.  That's it.

I have two USAT SP bay window cabooses and I was never a big fan of the left and right side window layout - not prototypical. Really love the Athearn versions of the C40 and C50 for HO and could never figure out why USA Trains just didn't use those as a guideline. One time I saw an USAT SP bay window caboose for sale on Ebay, and the seller had modified the caboose to the correct prototypical window placement and complete with details like a generator, a roof-mounted marker light and “flying saucer” radio antenna. The paint job and decals were superb, but I couldn't swing $200 for it.

These photos are great! I love when I can trick someone into thinking the photos are real locomotives, and I'd say you do a good job of that here.

      Great pics!

I've always had a soft spot for the SP locos in red and gray. They used to operate on the SD&A through Carrizo Gorge.
